That's amazing, both the theme itself and chazraps involvement in it. Congrats, very happy for you.

Thanks everyone for so many super kind words! It's been a very emotional 48 hours. The track's been in the making for a while, and then finally hearing it as he walked to the ring, one of the most overwhelming moments of my life. And then the positive reception after has been so powerfully heartwarming. One of the coolest things I've ever done and I'm still on cloud nine about it.
I'll circle back with the full story, but for now I just wanted to express how much this thread and these posts mean to me. Gang, you're the best.

"You're not alone when you run with the universe" We got your back Chaz, we're so happy for you and you deserve to be on cloud 9! I can't wait to hear the full story cause getting involved with someone like Mikey Ruckus just sounds like a good time, let alone Angelico who I assume had a lot of input with his theme as well. Take your time man, we'll be here, abiding by the vibe

Hey gang, thanks again for all the super kind words! I finally had a moment to sit down after a super busy two months, so as promised here's the full story.
Back in 2020, about two-three months into the pandemic, Rukus was working on a project that was wholly-unrelated to wrestling. I reached out to get involved in it as there was an open-call for submissions, Rukus reached back out and was a super cool dude so I was excited that he invited me to be on it. I wound up contributing an original verse for a posse cut (the aforementioned one that also featured Sir Tizzy) but the song wound up not making the final cut for the tracklist. Things like that happen all the time, but I was happy to be considered and it introduced me to Tizzy and other great artists who were featured on it. (I think it eventually got released as a Free MP3 tie-in with a baseball hat, but I don't think it was ever on streaming platforms or anything else commercially.
Rukus and I stayed in-touch. He continued to put out banger-after-banger through the lockdown and out the otherside and it was always really cool to see all the artists he gave a chance to, really shining a light on some regional talents (some I'd liked for a while, some who were brand new to me). Then in March (my second day on the job at the radio station that was/is my new place of employment) he DMs me and says he has an idea for a track for Angelico's forthcoming singles run that he think I'd sound good on and asked if I was interested. I've always dug Angelico's work and said I was down.
A few days later he sent me a very early version of the beat. Rukus' first drafts sound like a lot of producer's final product so I was super inspired. I won't go into detail speculating about how the beat was continued to be built upon as I don't know if he's planning a future video on the making-of it like he has for other themes, but basically the final version you hear is like putting jewels and precious medals on top of an already impressive feat of architecture. As someone who has followed Angelico on social media, I've known for a while he's a huge hip-hop head. And I don't just me "he likes a lot of hip-hop and listens to it" - but rather he knows the deep, deep corners of stuff. Like, he'll know the modern solo projects of members of early-aughts regional underground indie groups. Between knowing that and some words used as example to describe the feeling Rukus and Angelico wanted, I wrote and recorded four entirely different verses to give them some options to work with. One you didn't hear had a lot of nods to Angelico's home of Johannesburg, another I tried to describe the feeling of the vibe in the same way Angelico's wrestling style approaches the human anatomy in terms of a smooth flow while using rigid bodily terminology.
The two he picked I'm super happy with, especially that one contained the line "80,000 years of natural selection," which was a deep cut reference to a song called "Man VS Ape" late local rapper named Eyedea who was a hero of mine growing up (he was six years older than me, but as an aspiring teenage rapper seeing another teen who could freestyle so well and tear kids up in battles was really inspiring) who passed on in 2010. (If anyone reading this is unfamiliar with Eyedea and Abilities, their 2004 album 'E&A' is a masterpiece)
A brief time later, Rukus sent me and AntWontStop (who is great and a fun social media follow as well) the final version. Loved it. Few weeks after that we were informed by Rukus that it was set to debut at a dark taping that night. I kept refreshing my Twitter looking for Dark spoilers (which I usually never do, but just had to know) and when I saw photos of the new entrance and tweets mentioning the new music it was exciting. I didn't mention it as, there was still a few weeks before it aired on Dark and a lot can change in that time, but I tuned in each week super excited.
Then it aired and - wow - I honestly don't have the words for it. As someone who in '96/'97 was downloading wrestling themes from WCW on Compuserve and Unistork and OhMyGod's Simplenet pages, and then recording them on my Talkboy cassette, I've always had such a love for them and know how deep and loyal the theme enthusiasts' passion and archives go. It's something that in the quarter century of technological advances since has only grown and grown. I've been very blessed and very fortunate with my music over the years, but having a verse on a major promotion's broadcast as part of an active roster member's theme - even if it only ever aired once - it's part of that canon now. Just by the nature of the preservationists, it's ensuring I'm going to have a song with me rapping on it out there looooooong after I'm gone. Given my lifelong love of both hip-hop and wrestling, it's really humbling to know part of my journey has contributed to both in such a way.
So yeah, thanks again for all the really wonderful comments in this thread. It's made a special milestone in my life even more special.

I'll be honest: "I'm reelin' in the realness, I'm keeping it surreal" is an awesome freaking line. I really wish I wrote it.
