I don't hate the Painmaker stuff as much as a lot of people do, but it is corny, of course. Given Jericho's character, though, it's probably supposed to be.

"You made me so angry I'm going to dress like a Brony mime to fight you" is not the oh shit move you think it is, Christopher.

Oh goodie. One of the worst aspects of New Japan in the past 5 years.

I love that in wrestling the idea of a darker side that you can tap into for extra sadism or even for outright supernatural power is just like, an established thing in canon, but with Jericho everyone is just like 'lmao ok whatever'.

I want another wrestler whose 'dark side' is like Ibushi's. All the life drains from their eyes and they just violently beat someone half to death with a dead-eyed stare and a mouth that never changes expression. No facepaint, no gear change, just "I can't come to the phone right now, but you can talk to the killer. But the killer won't talk back."

I don't mind it when he's heel. The man is delusional and probably thinks it is cool. Face Jericho should have never brought this out.

Similarly, I loved when Hiromu tore at El Desperado's mask, and Despy tore it the rest of the way off and just stared him down as if to say, "You think I give a f*** about that?"

Interestingly enough, Jericho going to the Painmaker well against Nick Gage last year means that for the second year in a row, The Painmaker shows up for an unofficial deathmatch on Fyter Fest Night 2.

He was awesome at it and then they never explored it further.

Out of curiosity since this looks familiar: was Chris Jericho also supposed to be the painmaker when he fought Darby Allin on one of the first episodes of Dynamite?
Because at the time, I don't remember them making any special reference to this being Jericho's dark side and it just came across to me at that time that he was mocking Darby Allin with his facial make-up.

Not sure. Also, he just looks like The Chris Colt Experience here. Or The Chris Jericho Experience, I guess.

He looks like a Nate Hatred cosplayer with that outfit

I'm not sure how much Jericho wants to protect Painmaker but the way this should go is Eddie should just beat the shit out of him given that Painmaker's just some cheesy sports entertainment shit. Give Painmaker some huge, over the top entrance and then Eddie just wrecks him.
