…imagine going to a house show and finding out that one of the matches has Jonathan Coachman in it. Like… what?!It was probably not so much a "match" as just faces goofing on him since he'd have had heat, like wasn't he heel by then? You'd think (and there definitely some that were, like there's 5 or so Rhino matches and the only one on TV was 25 seconds so the house show was probably exact same), but he was also in hella tag matches with Garrison Cade and later on Carlito which probably had to have been like 5 minutes at the least. Also apparently if you went to the Wrestlemania Revenge tour shows in 07 you could see him challenge Santino for the IC title 3 times.

There was no way the roster was that low that you needed to have Coachman, even jokingly, challenge for the intercontinental championship THREE TIMES!!

Meltzer's star ratings are hilariously pointless.
Oh, a match got 3 1/2 stars? Is that good? Does that mean I should watch the match?
You know who the tried and true critics were that a lot of people enjoyed? Siskel and Ebert. But why?
Thumbs Up. Thumbs Down. As in, should you see the movie? Should you not see the movie?
That's it. No silly arbitrary number attached to a product that is designed to entertain and with zero objective standards as far as content.
With Meltzer, it is just his little way to needle wrestlers he doesn't personally like. It isn't to say he can't be a good reporter, but his opinions on what is or isn't good should never in any way be considered truthful. If he left it to "good match" or "bad match" then you'd get a better sense of what to check out. The stars are entirely pointless in every possible way.
Now with that out of the way...is that to say star ratings for other things are unnecessary? No, in fact star ratings are good when you are gathering a consensus from customers or users, and that gives you a way better mindset of how much of a customer base is satisfied. So anyone who uses star ratings in an individual fashion is a waste of time.

Hopefully it was just Tajiri spraying mist in his eyes every night. Say what you will about the Coach, but he sold that mist like his soul was burning.

Ideally there would be like a wrestling version of Rotten Tomatoes that averages out the ratings from all wrestling journalists for particular shows/matches. As well as a critic score they can have an audience score too so anyone can vote like RT (and Cagematch has).
Not so much now but in years gone by after I watched a big PPV I always enjoyed going to all the wrestling sites and seeing the reviews. Meltzer/WO. Wade Keller/PWT. Jason Powell/prowrestling.net. Larry Csonka/411Mania. Scott Keith was still doing reviews. There are many others too.
The good thing about RT and Metacritic is that you're getting so many viewpoints and ultimately a consensus. You're not always going to agree with the popular opinion but it's interesting to know what it is. You don't really get that for wrestling media though because 99% of the focus goes to one single critic. Meltzer's ratings are the only ones anyone ever talks about. I'm pretty sure all the people I listed above still review shows (except Larry Csonka, RIP) but hardly anyone seems to care. Compare that to when a new movie/show/videogame is out. Like on Reddit and elsewhere they'll have review threads with every critic under the sun featured from big time to local newspaper to your former college roommate who now has his own website.

I never care really what others think about a certain match or show. I like what I like. I do like to see Meltzers rating for some reason, just to see what he thinks about them. I like seeing what he considers a 5 star match. Sometimes I agree, sometimes I dont. Its fun.

Ace Ventura wouldn’ve been 2 thumbs up if it happened in the Tokyo Dome.

Thumbs up was strictly for the TV show, their actual written reviews were more in depth and used a 4 star system. They were basically dumbing down their reviews for TV
