I am just curious, does the ending of Newhart over shadow the rest of the series? I am question was it as good as the ending? I mean in my opinion I do think the Bob Newhart show is better, doesn't mean Newhart was a bad show.
Was the ending too good for this show?

I liked the show a lot, the finale didn't overshadow it for me because The Bob Newhart Show was before my time. They're both great shows, really the worst thing about Newhart is the first season being shot on videotape instead of film.

Yes, especially after the first season. It found itself when it embraced its own weirdness.

Yes, though the last couple of seasons were really rough in terms of quality.
Edit: in fact if not for the twist ending I'd say the finale was one of the worst episodes in the series.

Yes, once it starts shooting on film and retooled the cast, the show got funny. From the 3rd-5th season are its best. It only really gets iffy in the last season after they drop some recurring characters and add two really poor ones.

I only remember bits and pieces from my childhood. My family will still regularly reenact the brothers with the same name. Sadly, I don't have anything to really contribute on topic.

It was fine. There were better sitcoms on at the time, though some did not age as well as you'd think (and The Cosby Show should have aged well but is now permanently stained).

Yes, I think so. I went back and rewatched it no long ago and, in my opinion, it definitely holds up.

I might be the only one who feels this way, but I do feel Larry, Darryl, and Darryl were over exposed, I like them better in the first couple of seasons when they are just recurring. They are better in small doses like Bob's patients, I love Elliot Carlin but imagine if he was a regular, it get old fast.
One real criticism, Dick Loudon can be a little mean, Bob Hartley is more nicer.

I used to love the A&W campaign of the late '80s just because it was William Sanderson too. Nowadays, Newhart is significant for being the favorite show of Pete from Ghosts. All I have to say after that is..."Meow."
