Not a big surprise; rarely do guys come in for nostalgia runs going "No I want to win everything give me all the goods I'm the king, you f***ing need me dumbass". They're generally happy just to get another run, be out there in front of a crowd again, and put over future guys. Goldberg going over the Fiend seemed like a Vince call, easily.

He pretty much says so Like basically in WCW he was a little more protective of his character after so many people was in his ear about what he should do but he said he stopped caring towards the end. Goldberg cares more about being a hero to kids That's why I think if Goldberg came in at Wrestlemania X-8 and faced heel Austin. That would've been a great match. Goldberg wasn't broken down and Austin would still be his heel cheating ways. As popular as Bill was, there's absolutely zero chance he gets cheered against Austin in 2002 at a WWF event.

To put it another way: Goldberg absolutely did follow the script. "That's what everyone thinks, until...SWERVE, BRO! They'll neva see it comin, bro."

Going back to WCW, Goldberg always came off like he’ll do whatever as long as the check clears. Pretty much. He’s like Lesnar, catches a lot of heat for his booking but that dudes willing to look at the lights if the paycheque comes through.

One version I heard was that the Saudi government insisted The Fiend lose because they thought he was a satanic character.

One version I heard was that the Saudi government insisted The Fiend lose because they thought he was a satanic character. He friggin WON the belt in Saudi Arabia, though. Last time they’d went. If the Saudis had any issue with The Fiend’s imagery, he wouldn’t have even been allowed in the country let alone given featured placement on the propaganda show.

Not only was he the most over thing that night, we didn't even hear of any complaints about the SEVERED HEAD he carried to the ring.
