Thing is I dont think WWE actually cares about Dominick.
He is just there to keep Rey there

Being given a more gradual build and chance to find his own identity likely would have helped a good bit but at the end of the day I think he just isn't very good and doesn't have a lot of charisma. I think this is the headshot; Likely would have been better but it really feels like the cat just isn’t good. It’s kind of gone under the radar because of everything else but the WWE Dom run has been the shits.

If AEW would've actually like, had him working on Dark while training in a wrestling school instead of throwing him to the wolves like WWE did because he's Rey's son? Maybe. Or maybe he just isn't very good. Not every legacy wrestler is as good as their parents. Brian Pillman Jr is a good example.

I think some of it comes down to expectations, too, like Pillman's been at this about 5 years, Dominik's debut was less than 2 years ago, I think. Like, I know I've seen it said Dominik's training began in 2018, but his onscreen debut was 2020, and I have no idea how many matches or anything he was having before that. I kind of think when his contract comes up, Pillman might want to consider WWE or Impact if he wants to get serious about himself, since he seems frankly complacent. Similarly, Dominik and Rey need to consider if WWE is the best environment for him or not, and if he'd benefit from going elsewhere to develop, since he probably is reaching or has reached his upper limit there. I doubt either guy will be as good as their dad, but it's also still early for them.

An excursion in CMLL or NJPW would do him wonders I think.
Also give him a mask so he at least learns more body focused selling.

He's Garett Bischoff with a Lucha moveset. Don't know if better training or actually touring the indies would have done him any better.

I've suggested that it could be the clay instead of the potters, but I think it's possible for Dominick to make his own way. To that, though, he needs to make his own way. A mask and a different name, a bit more attention to conditioning, and a few months overseas might improve his self-discipline to the point at which he can work well - more of a Joe Hennig rather than a David Sammartino. Would that necessarily be his ceiling? That might be up to his creativity and his willingness to push his characterization.

He'd be Brian Rockker or something.

I think a lot of it is Rey himself. Rey clearly wants his son by his side. It wouldn't have mattered what promotion Rey went to, Dominick would be in the same position.
No way is Rey letting his son go through NXT or be exclusive to Dark or be a Young Lion, even though that would be the best way for him to learn.
I honestly believe Rey is holding Dominick back from his potential. It may not be a high potential, but Dom's never going to reach it as long as he's with his dad.
Hell, look at Hook. Taz isn't by his side all the time. Cutting his promos or anything like that. Taz just stays at commentary and lets Hook do his thing.

The baby bird has to fly or splat. But I'm not sure being by his side is a great idea now. Like remember when Ric Flair was managing Charlotte, she was doing the woo's all the time but eventually she kicked him to the curb and was out on her own. I'm not sure a heel turn will work with Dom, but it's time for that baby bird moment. David Sammartino David Flair Ted Dibase, Jr. Wes Brisco Lacey Von Erich Ray Gordy Shawn Stasiak Sim Snuka Erik Watts and I'm not counting the likes of Curtis Axel or Brian Christopher who weren't as successful as their more famous relatives, but had long running careers. My point being you are right.
