I decided a long time ago that based on all available evidence that Chris Irvine is absolutely someone i would not get along with in the real world….but I was able to ignore that part of it and enjoy Chris Jericho the in ring entity.
But…naw. Not anymore.
So many people hold on to Peak Jericho when they look at the Jericho of 2022 that they can’t bring themselves to realize; dude isn’t That Dude anymore. The bitch of it is, he didn’t get the memo about that either.
There is zero reason for him to “win” the Kingston feud. Except for his carny ego.
It made sense when he first came into AEW…brought legitimacy to to the fledgling brand to a larger audience who didn’t follow the indies/NJPW/etc.
But for him to continue to be in such a prominent position in 2022 when the brand is well and established is just….stupid.
I never make threads like this but tonight was the tipping point for me.
Jericho is my least favorite thing in AEW. Yes, even more so than that pimple on the ass of humanity Dan Lambert.
/end rant

I'm sure part of it's just due to finding him to just come off like an utterly terrible human being but I can't remember the last time I actually consistently enjoyed Jericho. I think it might've been in like 2005.
Yes, I know I'm discounting Jerishow and the SRS run while saying that, both of those got very old very quickly.

I thought this year has been some of his best in ring work in ages tbh
I really don't mind him, obviously he needs to lose more at this stage of his career, but the guys putting in work, and doing crazy shit he doesn't have to. He's still over as hell, I don't see why he needs to go right now?

I don’t mind him tbh. Besides without Cody there, he’s the only gateway to zany over the top wwe-inspired content for AEW.

Jericho's killing it in this role. However, Eddie should have won the match. That was utterly ridiculous on every level.

The character is fun but the actual booking pattern for his matches has been complete ballsack. When it's JAS being goofs and Chris talking about being a wizard, I'm all in, but then they beat up someone five to one and it stops feeling so magical.

And…really though?….f*** the PainMaker bit.
I mean, when he worked Okada it made sense in a vacuum. But to keep coming back to it when literally the only difference is some goofy ass make up and a mask for his entrance….
Double naw.

He's due to take some time off to tour with Fozzy, so he'll be gone for a minute at least.

He's better when he is taking the piss out of himself
When you have to believe him to be this menacing conquering dude it doesn't work.

He's due to take some time off to tour with Fozzy, so he'll be gone for a minute at least. Assuming he actually does. There've been times before everyone was assuming he'd leave for a tour and then he just stuck around through it.

Nah he's still very over and very good. He just needs to wrap this feud up and move on.

Yeah like this whole JAS thing is such an ideal "goofy loser heels build up to get what's coming to them because at their core they're pathetic beings" and IMO they're at their best being goofy weirdos that you're supposed to laugh at how stupid they are, but then like 9 times out of ten they're ultra annihilators in fights and matches. It's two things at odds with each other.

He’s gone from being one of my three all time favorites to be an instant channel changer for me. Has been for at least a year.

He's been doing incredible work in the ring and on the mic/character stuff all year after doing great stuff mostly in the MJF feud. The Eddie match at Revolution, Anarchy in the Arena, the six man tag at Forbidden Door, the Ortiz match, and Blood/Guts were all great.
The last third of tonight's match was truly atrocious booking but I'm not gonna pretend he's been terrible on TV for a long time (as a general person he sucks of course but different).

My outlook on Chris Jericho (the character….not the person) has slowly been turning negative for a while. He just eats up so much TV time. Tonight (him going over absolutely feels like him pulling a “that doesn’t work for me, brother. Gotta protect The PainMaker gimmick!” to me) was just the tipping point for me. Yes, I recognize I’m in the minority with this. Yes, I recognize he’s over with the audience in general. And, yes, I recognize that he can occasionally still go. But all in all the “old haggard rock star surrounding himself with more talented people to stay relevant” gimmick feels like not a gimmick at all at this point. To me at least. Your mileage…and opinion…may vary.

He and his stable are basically the AEW House of Torture.

He doesn't need to go over maybe as much as he does, but I do like the kind of creativity he brings to AEW. Dynamite's a Nitro-like show, and he sticks out kinda like how he did in 1998/early 1999.

I was alright with him winning just since I assume the reasoning is, "Kingston's crew won Blood and Guts, so if Kingston can dump Jericho in some barbed wire, then Jericho can win this match." I get that reasoning, even if I'd have preferred Kingston win it. I just want this feud to be over with now, or maybe it'll shift to Kingston/Ruby vs Sammy/Tay, anyway, and not be a stable warfare thing anymore.

I thought the finish was dumb but what do you expect out of a dude who's gimmick is "I love Double Double E" when he's facing this era's Tommy Dreamer
