He ultimately probably was making more money in Japan, but he probably would have been a decent choice for a face against the nWo in some capacity. Would have also had some interesting implications for him and Scott Norton on the NJPW side of things if they did that, too.

Like... imagine a Brock vs Goldberg style sprint? Yes please.

Well he was in the midst of turning face when he got turfed after the Orndorff backstage fight. He was supposed to be on Hogan's War Games team at Fall Brawl 95 but as a result was replaced by Luger.
He was definitely positioned as a face coming out of the split from his alliance with Flair and actually came to Hogan's rescue when he was attacked in the Dungeon of Doom at the August 95 Clash where he also beat Flair and Arn in a handicap match in the main event. Also during that Dungeon of Doom segment he had he a staredown with The Giant which was pretty cool. I only just recently saw it and was kind of taken aback by it as I never knew those two interacted at all it felt like Vader was gone by the time the Giant got started. It felt like their careers really intersected as far as them being the monsters of WCW.

I almost think it's better that this didn't happen, because with Hogan and Savage at the top of the card, even Sting was getting bumped down into midcard/tag team matches. Then Luger came in and there was no room for Vader near the top as a babyface. He would have ended up like Bam Bam '95, a speed bump for heels en route to the main event.
