I think they’ll be fine, but may need to shop their shows around at negotiations time to get the increase they want/deserve.

They'd be stupid to touch AEW.
It has a big audience and costs peanuts to produce.

They'd be stupid to touch AEW. It being a stupid idea hasn't stopped them from culling HBOMax. But no, AEW is safe. It's cheaper than scripted shows, and an easy way to bring in money.

Personally, I feel that AEW should be fine but at the same time should really shop around. I do not have confidence of the new Discovery CEO and after hearing rumors that HBO Max will be merged with Discovery+ and not vice versa scares me a bit.
That said, AEW does need a streaming service somewhere. I am glad that they sell DVDs but streaming will help current and new fans really get into the product.

I took a deep dive into this on entertainment Reddit yesterday and…YIKES.
I *think* AEW is safe, but if I’m Tony and I can get somewhere that keeps eyeballs on the product, gets me a streaming deal AND gets me away from these snakes? I gotta consider it at a minimum.

Yeah, AEW should definitely shop around when it's time to get a new rights deal. Though I I'd feel that way even without Zaslav doing what he's doing.

Well Discovery seems to be culling scripted shows (which makes no f-ing sense), so I would have to believe AEW is safe from that sort of thing. Tony could find another network in a heartbeat though. They're constantly top 3 in cable on their night and it's relatively cheap to have them around.

Also if you want to still have a streaming service and get easy subs, the AEW/ROH library will get you a few hundred thousand in my view. It's worth the investment.

Because I thought the Paramount Network didn't want wrestling on their channel anymore after they re-branded from being Spike TV a while back.

AEW costs WB nothing and is a live sports program, something they're very keen on investing in and one of the biggest ratings draws on TNT if not the biggest. I feel this post gets made every other week and it's tiresome. To be fair, this isn’t the weekly “Quarter 3 was down 2000 viewers. CURTAINS!!” ratings talk that is indeed tiresome for both AEW and WWE. AEW will probably be fine but when the new bosses come in and swing an ax directly at what should have be one of the crown jewels of their acquisition, it’s fair to wonder “We’re still cool though right?”

We'd also have more awareness of the financial state of how the company is doing and it'd likely be run a completely different way. Honestly, whilst it isn't the same ratings juggernaut, axing AEW right now would be like axing the NBA coverage. It does well enough where it dominates the nights its on and if they did decide to do it, there would be a lot of suitors. More for the latter than the former but it isn't like nobody would go for the former either.

It's not just Meltzer being a worry wart or concern trolls peddling the AEW DOOMED narrative. But wrestling is the kind of content much more likely to survive because of how it's more like sports and reality TV than prestige scripted shows.

I think Meltzer is being ultra cautious in an attempt to condition fans not to consider it a major disappointment if they only get a small increase in their next TV deal.
To be fair though, part of the reason people thought AEW would get a massive rights increase next time is because Meltzer himself spent the whole of 2020 and 2021 touting their success and predicting they would. I don't know if he heard something behind the scenes or he just overnight became ultra cautious but his opinion suddenly flipped this year.

FWIW, I’m on the WBD presentation now and AEW got a visual shoutout in their presentation.

I would like to see this as a sign that ROH will be on a streaming service...
