First, you can definitely tell it's RVD in the face and jawline, but secondly, "Matt Burn", a pun on mat burn? Yeah, definitely him picking a disposable jobber name.

I feel like Vince or one of his buddies knowing Vince would find it hilarious. Rob is creative enough that he probably had a name already lined up for himself.

They should never have made Matt Burn RVD.

I thought the OP made a typo and meant the original Doink, but this is a much more interesting find.
The man that Mooney called "Burns" throughout the squash was 22 at the time, but looked 15.

Gotta give him credit, that elbow of his was damn good. Not too sure about the dropkick as a finish here, but I guess A. he didn't need to use an actually acceptable finisher by the standards of the day on some jobber, and B. they probably didn't want the jobber standing after to get shocked if he'd been put down with a legitimate finisher, so this was the way to go.

Just the heart and the glee he put into the gimmick. He seemed to be enjoying it so so much here. I’m the Mountie!

Useless trivia: there is currently a wrestler on the UK indies call Matt Burns. He's been booked here and there for a promotion I work with. Umm.. he's not good like the original Matt Burn.

What was the deal with Ray Rougeau at this time? Was he hurt? Retired? I can’t remember how Jacques ended up as the Mountie.
RVD had no luck in Titan until he was actually RVD. Million Dollar Man, Mountie, and probably others owned him. lol

Ray Rougeau I believe had retired for good in 1990. Did he ever wrestle another match? Not sure if he was still working for WWF in some capacity but I don't remember him doing anything between Rumble 90 and around the same time in 1993.
RVD was super young at the time, probably 1992 so not surprising he was just used for jobs. He built his body up a bit and got a better gimmick. I'm surprised WWE never did anything with he and Jean Claude given the likeness. I think WCW would sure have if Rob were in WCW.

I hope the Mountie was bet $20 by his brother Ray backstage before the match that he couldn't say "I'm the Mountie!" ten times during the match - Super Troopers 'Meow!'-style. Jacques sure reveled hard in being the man who always gets his man!

At 4:20, you can see how high Mountie gets with his dropkick.
