The dentist was pretty adamant about it yesterday. Any advice I should know? Do I need to stock up on some meal replacement shakes for a while when I get it done? If so what kind? How long of a recovery should I expect?

Get the IV, not the gas. You will want to be put under.
They gave me hydrocodone after it was over, but I never had to take it. I followed their advice of what not to do and was almost fully healed within just a few days.
Oh, and make sure you tell them you want your teeth back. They threw mine away after surgery. I could have had 4 shiny quarters under my pillow otherwise.

Soft foods that won't require a lot of chewing for awhile is best, yeah. The main thing they pushed when I had mine out was making sure to keep the incision spots clean (I don't know if they still do this, but they gave me a little plastic syringe to flow water into the incisions to clean them out) and NO STRAWS. You don't want to risk getting a dry socket up there. Beyond that, do your best to stay on track with the antibiotics. I've never done well with antibiotics and that was the hardest part for me.

Stock up on icepacks and treat recovering like a sports injury and the swelling will go down faster.

I never grew any wisdom teeth, which I didn't even know was a thing, but I guess some people just don't.

If wisdom teeth were so smart, they would figure out a way to grow in your mouth so they didn't have to get pulled out.

If they are Doug all four, get a ride it an Uber. Otherwise once it’s over just go home and go back to bed.

I could have had 4 shiny quarters under my pillow otherwise. I got the oral anesthesia when they had to remove my lower teeth, and it felt like the dentist was trying to yank my jawbone out. If that sounds too scary, just go for full anesthetic.

Ice, gauze, tea bags, ice, tea bags. No straws. No smoking. No hot and/or spicy foods. Rinse is okay, but don't purse your lips; just let the water fall out. Learn to enjoy mashed potatoes, buy some pudding cups and the single-serve mac & cheese. My dentist gave me full instructions. I was still smoking when all of mine were removed, but thanks to a pill packet (3 ibuprofen & 2 generic Tylenol because i can't take codeine if I'm at work) and being smart, it's not bad.

I remember drooling blood a lot, especially while sleeping, you might want to consider bringing a pot to your bed

Worst part was the 12 hour fast beforehand.
I bought a cheap blender before I had mine taken out, and bought a lot of milk, peanut butter, and bananas for smoothies.
Think they said a week for solid food, but after a couple days I was hungry enough I risked a sandwich and it turned out fine.

Learn to enjoy the soft foods. Mashed potatoes. Puddings. Smoothies. Also, whether or not you need the ice packs depends on what pills they give you for recovery.
Also, for god's sake do not use straws until you're fully recovered.

I got all 4 done at once. I have no memory after them turning the gas on. I woke up 2 days later with no idea how I got on my deck. Friends told me I had been calling them but I can't remember. After my pain pills ran out I was still on excruciating pain. Went back to the dentist and had to have more work done.

Do not do what I did and get tin roof sundae ice cream afterwards. Trying to use your two front teeth to eat peanuts sucks.

Don't chew on your lip afterwards so matter now numb your lips are.
That was a bad habit I had to get away from.
Also they're gonna put some wadding in your mouth to stop the bleeding.

Don't be a hero, take the pain pills. The anesthesia was starting to wear off while waiting for my prescription and that was a bit uneasy. Drink lots of fluids like Gatorade, since eating sucks for a few days. Keep some old sheets on your pillows since I bled and bled and bled that first day to the point where my dad called the oral surgeon to ask if that was normal. No straws, no smoking. Warm saltwater rinse helps a lot.

Had all 4 done at the same time, awake, with novocaine. Don’t let anyone freak you out, it’s not terrible. Just expect to have your mouth full of cotton that day.

I had mine cut out at 16 because they were about to push my teeth forward.
I didn't have any problems. Never had any pain and it was healed completely a week later. 🤷♂️
I actually had 5. There was an extra small one underneath one of the main ones. 😂

Mine haven't cut through, because of extra teeth. The dentist said that if they weren't causing problems, she wasn't going to touch them.
