I found a 2000s radio station today and thought, huh, why devote a station to really recent music. Then I realised there's AN ENTIRE DECADE between now and the end of the 2000s. I had to lie in a dark room for a while after that.

It used to be the latest song they played was “Beautiful Day” by U2. They started that one WAY early compared to everything else and think they justified it to themselves by it being U2 who have been around forever. It used to be lots of Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Queens, etc. They still play that mostly but now it’s alongside things like Alanis Morissette and Creed.

The same length of time passed between Psycho and Halloween (18 years) and Halloween and Scream (18 years). It’s been 26 years since Scream.

I keep thinking about how the MCU only started recently which was 2008.
2008 was 14 years ago…

My goodness. I guess I really am an outlier in this "I feel so old" trend that's sweeping the nation (or world), because I actually acknowledge the passage of time and stuff. I guess that makes me unique.

Seen people debate that "classic rock" is a specific genre. So they're not actually Abe Simpson and compensating for feeling old. OK dude, so there's a genre that covers everything from the 50s to the 80s with some 90s in, but no further???

When I was a kid, I thought of classic music as anything from the 60's and 70's and fossil music as anything from the 50's. The 90's and 00's are as far removed from now as the year when I thought that about classic. And the 80's for fossil. The 1982 slasher movie Girls Nite Out prominently features a radio station playing "golden oldies", referring to songs from the mid to late 60s. A film set in the present day attempting to recreate this experience would be using songs from 2005-2009. Halloween II uses the Chordettes version of Mr Sandman. The equivalent for Halloween Ends would be Laurie Strode cruising around to Gangstas Paradise.

Just saw that austin powers is coming to netflix. He was frozen in 1967 and the movie came out in 97, so he was frozen for 30 years. Its now been almost as long, 25 years, since the movie came out.

The future of Escape From New York was 25 years ago. The future of the Running Man, Blade Runner and Back to the Future has also come and gone.
