I saw a post by one of the family members who screened the movie, unfortunately confirming that, in the movie, Chris Von Erich doesn't exist. I can't put into words how terrible I think this is, considering he was one of the siblings who was a wrestler, who also took his own life. And that one of the big reasons he did so was the pressure put on him to live up to the accomplishments of his other family members. And now, even in death, these filmmakers thought he didn't matter enough to include him in the story. Awful. How hard could it have been to include him? I almost don't want to even watch the thing now. As much as that sucks, it could be something as simple as giving another person another arc ads more time to the movie and they don't wan to run a 3 hour movie.

To me, this is reprehensible. The film is a tale of suicide within a family. Considering he was one of the siblings who was a wrestler, who also took his own life, and that one of the big reasons he did so was the pressure put on him to live up to the accomplishments of his other family members, for these filmmakers to decide that he didn't matter enough to include him in the story is just awful. It's the worst message to send someone viewing it who might have dealt with multiple suicides within a family. That not everyone who died in that family mattered. How hard could it have been to include him? Even just in a very small role. I almost don't even want to watch the thing now. I mean it sucks that they couldn't include him but who knows what happened before they came to the decision to leave him out? As long as Kevin and the rest of his family are ok with it I don't see the need to get up on arms about it.

So they're not all ok with it.
But was it disappointment or anger? There's a difference.

Zach Efron really has that Von Erich jaw down pat. Is that a prosthetic?

Zach Efron really has that Von Erich jaw down pat. Is that a prosthetic? no, it’s a side effect of … vitamins. Or a “fall” he had. Whichever, whatever you’d like to believe. The clip of the chef dyde talking about the artistry of wrestlers is going around. Really cool. It’s pretty easy to see coming from an acting standpoint. He also hella resembles Kenny Omega.

turns out this film has a bit of an interesting executive producer attached to it.

Does Executive Producer really mean anything? I mean Stan Lee was the executive producer for all of the Marvel films when he was alive but all he did was make amusing cameos in the films.

Varies immensely. The word 'producer' is functionally meaningless. Executive producer on The Simpsons, for example, includes Sam Simon (stopped working on the show in 1993, then died but still makes roughly 3 million a year off royalties), Matt Groening (creator) and James L Brooks (who helped flesh it out with Matt), none of whom have worked full time on the show for decades now. However, executive producer is also the title given to the show runner, or main creative lead - Al Jean for most of the past two decades, Mike Scully before that, etc. However, a number of the regular writers are also executive producers. So to answer your question I don't know.

So, if this were to win Best Picture at the Oscars, would we see MJF on stage? LOL
Seriously though, I've really heard nothing but good things about this movie. I'll probably see it that first week it comes out.

For the most part, the executive producer is someone with the connections and influence who secures financing for the movie (or owns the production company making it) and hires the producers who run the various aspects of the production. Think Spielberg on every Amblin Entertainment movie. Meanwhile, James Woods is an executive producer on Oppenheimer. His only involvement was introducing the guy whose book the movie was based on to Christopher Nolan. No doubt MJF is more Woods than Spielberg.

I knew this was being made but had no clue it was coming out next week until I saw an add on instagram. As f***ed up as it sounds, I can't wait. I really hope it tears apart Fritz.

Just caught the sneak preview. We're going to have nerd complaints - lots of them. This thread is going to blow up big time next week. But the film overall? Excellent. They nail the relationship between the brothers. Perfectly cast, save for the dude playing Flair.
And Chavo deserves all of the praise he's been getting. That was the best portrayal of in-ring wrestling I have ever seen.

Kevin has actually said he didn’t want Fritz to be portrayed as a monster, and that was one of his worries heading into it.

I knew this was being made but had no clue it was coming out next week until I saw an add on instagram. As f***ed up as it sounds, I can't wait. I really hope it tears apart Fritz. Kevin has actually said he didn’t want Fritz to be portrayed as a monster, and that was one of his worries heading into it. I saw the critics screening tonight and watched Heroes of World Class this afternoon for a quick refresher. I'll say this - everything Fritz does in 'Iron Claw' is something Kevin said that he did from his own mouth in his own words in 'Heroes of World Class.' While Kevin in 'Heroes...' follows saying all the horrible shit Fritz did with "but he wasn't abusive, I know that it sounds like an abusive family, but it wasn't" when it clearly was just hearing him talking about it. Then seeing it on-screen, you really feel it. So, to put it diplomatically, the film portrays Fritz exactly how Kevin would describe him - but anyone watching Fritz do what Kevin said he did would walk away thinking he's a monster. The one difference is that Fritz's dad doesn't get any reference or mention in the movie, and in 'Heroes,' he's the one who Kevin feels comfortable running down and blaming his treatment of Fritz for how Fritz treated all his children.
