OK so I got a bunch of N64 games and 1 NES game (Pro Wrestling) at an antique mall. I get home, break out my N64 and the thing doesn't want to work. The power light is on but nothing is showing up on the screen. Thinking maybe the games I just bought were defective I put in WCW/nWo Revenge and it doesn't want to come on either. Eventually I get Revenge to come on so I try it with one of the new games again and nothing. After about 50 times of turing it off and on and taking the cartridge out I finally get it working. My wife is playing the game for an hour or so and I then just freezes up. At this point I decide to try another new game and can't get the thing to come on at all again so I just give up.
I then hook up my old NES I realize right away that there is a problem because the power light won't come on. I screw around with it for a few minutes and the power light finally comes on and I of course have to fight with the game cartridge to get it to come on and when it finally does there are all these lines in the graphics. I try restarting it and the power light goes off again.
Both my N64 and my NES were working fine last time I had them out (year or so ago) so what in the heck happened to them? I had them stored in a cool dry place. Everything was plugged in and hooked up correctly. I know a NES kind of go to hell after a while but a N64?
Anyone have any ideas what could bethe problem?

I had the same problem with the N64. It may just need to be taken apart and cleaned. Your NES is screwed though.

Upon further inspection I found that there was a rip in the AC cord for the N64. I'm assuming that is the problem. How that happened I don't know. I guess I'll just have to find a replacement on ebay or something. Now what happened to the NES I don't know.

the n64 could be the cord or just needs to be cleaned...the nes probably needs a new 72-pin connector(i dont suggest this unless ur good with electronics and soldering)

I think it has something to do with the NES being around 20 years old.

I think it has something to do with the NES being around 20 years old. as long as the power light comes on, your still in ok shape...trust me, look it up, its most likely the pins (which since the machine is around 20yrs old are nicely worn and would love a replacing) you can find the pin online or for a few cents to a couple bucks on ebay...but like i said non-eletronics knowers beware

My NES will just randomly restart in the middle of a game, which, trust me, is far more annoying than having to blow into the thing for a few minutes to get it to work. Thus, my NES collection has gone digital.

Apparently an NES game from the UK is slightly different than a North American one. I bought Kid Icarus on Ebay, and it absolutely wont work.

I need new A/V cables for my SNES and N64. I tried to play Street Fighter II Turbo yesterday, but there was no picture, just sound. I was reduced to listening to the game music in the options menu .

Otherwise, try other smaller game stores in the area if there are any. Usually you'll get a better price than on eBay.

A friend's NES did something like that a few years ago if I remember correctly. He just took it to one of those mom & pop repair shops and it's worked fine ever since.
I think they charged something like $25.00 for it though.
