The implication from "couldn't EVEN run a Target" is that its an easy thing to do. Also this is the most joyous thread in the forum! Just jokes, memes, scrums and muffins. I'm never going to be able to watch Rugby while eating a muffin in the same way as I might have done 2 weeks ago. Every time (I mean this, every time) I see a Muffin out in the wild now I think of Phil. Yeh they couldnt run a target, but it say nothing about then if he doesnt see Managing Target as a lesser thing. |

If you make what Punk said sound more complimentary to Target with “they could probably run a Target but can’t run AEW!” the implication is still that running a Target is somehow easier than a wrestling promotion.
Whenever someone says that someone else “couldn’t even” do something it is always to say that the thing that they “couldn’t even” do is easier than what they’re doing/attempting to do. Every time.
Examples:
“How is CM Punk going to cook dinner? He can’t even even boil an egg!”
“How is CM Punk going to have a UFC fight, he couldn’t even win a fist fight with a sucker punch!”
Etc.

I'm reading some of these comments like J Jonah Jameson from the PS4 Spider-Man and I love it so much.
Also, I'm sure it was just a throwaway line and Punk just happened to pick Target (though I wouldn't be surprised at all if he rehearsed it), but it is funny how Punk chose a retail chain that, in my experience, has always come off as a pretty solidly run operation. Dude may as well have said "You guys can't even run a modestly upscale store with mostly clean aisles and decent prices. Ha, showed them!".
