Might get backlash for this, but I actually agree with Punk trying to tone down a lot of the AEW style. There have been WAY too many instances of people almost dropped on their neck in AEW. Hell it happened to Hangman on a move that happens 5x every match.
I just believe wrestling is a character based business and doing dangerous/cool moves for the sake of it does not really draw money. There are guys at my local indie fed who do the dumbest stunts, but never practice their promo abilities and somehow can't figure out why they don't get booked more or have more of a following.
Take Danhausen and OC. Spent TONS of time on the indies, very good workers. When they established characters, they got way more attention.

so tempted to lock the thread permanently. the thread is basically post count padding: the thread now, we know no more than we did two weeks ago. Just one post above yours is an actual picture of the event

But Punk himself didn't even adhere to that, like when he pulled out the Pepsi Plunge for the first time since he left ROH (and for good reason). If he said that with some self-introspection it'd be one thing. But he comes off like a hypocrite instead.
Also, I think the "AEW style is too dangerous" thing is really overstated. Yeah, you've got people like Sammy Guevara and Darby Allin doing that kinda stuff, but most matches aren't really that different from what other promotions put on. Especially since they have cut down on a bunch of the more overdone spots like the suicide dives or moves on the aprons compared to a couple of years ago.

Take Danhausen and OC. Spent TONS of time on the indies, very good workers. When they established characters, they got way more attention. Hangman was not "Dropped on his neck", he sold a Lariat where he himself spun out to sell it, and he landed wrong. This is really misleading to say. People have sold Lariats this way all the time, and Rikishi was one of the proponents to selling a Lariat this way back in the 90's, and he was a good 200 pounds heavier than Hangman is. This was an accident, and not something that is in correlation to some style choice or how AEW works. AEW's style is no more or less dangerous than any style in wrestling like New Japan or WWE. I'm kind of sick and tired of AEW's style being propped up as "The dangerous one" or that it's an "AEW style" to even begin with, it feels like a hell of a lot of concern trolling when I see it, not saying you're doing that, just how it feels. And to say that AEW wrestlers are just cool moves with no personality or that they don't work to get better at the aspects of personality is also imo extremely disingenuous, as AEW has a ton of wrestlers who have grown their characters and continue to grow them along with their styles. And guys who are really good at wrestling and work on the character aspects later has worked out quite a lot for a lot of wrestlers in this business. In AEW cases like Daniel Garcia, Wheeler Yuta, and Jungle Boy stand out, in the Indies, one of the fastest rising stars is Kevin Blackwood. It's cool if you think the best way for people to draw money is character work, but even in your example of Orange Cassidy, his character's a big draw, but something that helps is the fact he is a REALLY good wrestler, and that has risen his ceiling exponentially in the business too. And to tie all this together in a bow, CM Punk tried to do a Spanish Fly and botched it, and then botched the Buckshot Lariat twice in a match, along with attempting the Pepsi Plunge and numerous high risk spots... so if he was trying to come down on "The dangerous AEW Style", he himself didn't even listen to his own words.

Odds are the Elite will be back on TV at the PPV on Saturday so I'd suggest leaving it open until then at least. Then maybe closing it until the confirmation of what's happening with Punk's contract comes out. Obviously, I'm not a mod though, so do what you think is best.

A lot of this thread has stayed on the topic at hand while little blurbs and updates have been consistently trickling through. I don't see the issue with it or how it's bothering anyone here? If anything this thread has been one of the funniest, brighter spots on this forum since its inception, and that continues. Yes there have been goals that we've seen in terms of page numbers that we've wanted to hit, and have succeeded, but that's also come with updates and overall having fun with the subject and discussing it with the rest of the participants. Idk with so much negativity fluctuating through the boards at any given moment, locking the one thread where it feels like people are positively coming together for updates and the memes that this has continued to spawn, seems like the worst thing to do, personally. I really feel like FAN has needed this. I don't know if I'm alone in that, but it's been a breath of fresh air, at least to me. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that either.

And funny enough these are two guys that never got injured doing that shit. There is an argument that the suicide dive is unnecessary risk, but short of that I dont see it.Especially because there is no such thing as an AEW Style. so tempted to lock the thread permanently. the thread is basically post count padding: the thread now, we know no more than we did two weeks ago. I would counter argue though that while we've had people comment on page goals, I don't think a lot of the convo has been trying to inflate the number to GET there, a lot of it has just been memes and discussing the matter at hand while we happen to meet the goals pretty naturally as far as I've seen Like the last few pages were us goofing about CM Punk being a horrorcore rapper, I don't think many of us while goofing on that subject were thinking about meeting page 666, it was just having fun with an idea Even then when the page goal is met like 666, you can see the funny edits that harken to the topic at hand and are tied into the subject with effort behind them, which I think is cool and only adds to what this thread has been about from day one I'd say with the Elite blurbs on Dynamite, comments about the scrum from others in the business, and even CM Punk's first appearance commentating an MMA fight have been all pretty recent things we've all been commenting about of note outside of memes or anything having to do with a Page number, and with Full Gear coming up, I'm sure there will still be things to talk about... including another scrum, so hey who knows

667, the neighbor of the beast!
Anyway I'd say leave this thread open til Full Gear at least. Once the Elite come back it'll probably be more obvious where everyone involved in this mess stands. Plus, hey, another scrum!

In fairness I think as long as people can post "Didn't watch" which offers nothing of value to a discussion, and is clearly just padding for their post count, then this thread should stay open

Didn't someone release a montage of like 20 AEW wrestlers being dropped on their in the last year alone? my main point was that it's a character driven business. Hard to put a genuine commentary on what is essentially just hearsay

Hard to put a genuine commentary on what is essentially just hearsay And yet the only person to really suffer serious injury from that was Big E of WWE. No one is going to say WWE has a dangerous style. Mind you, Ridge Holland really shouldn't have attempted that when he's never done something like that before with a big guy like Big E as his first person. But it was just an unfortunate accident. Even Adam Page's injury was a concussion and that occurred before he landed like he did. Wrestling works best with a variety of styles. Different guys get over different ways. Danhausen gets over with a great sense of humor and superb marketing instincts. Dante Martin and Rey Fenix get over for their death defying high flying. Bryan Danielson gets over from being arguably the best technical wrestler on the planet, etc.
