One of the few good things you can say about New Jersey is that chants tonight during that trios match.

The comments from Punk’s diehard fans under clips of the chanting were just sad.

Man, all I wanted was a big, noisy hero's welcome for The Elite coming back, the chants were really just the cherry on top. I know this won't put an end to the "Punk is their topmost draw, they're betraying the fans and the fans don't like this" shit that people have been lobbing out into the wild, but they at least now look like absolute goobs.

I really hope this doesn’t get into the realm of where people are being slammed just for enjoying CM Punk’s work in the past. Not saying he didn’t completely bring on all of this bad juju on himself, he did. It’s a crying shame he had to eff up the legacy he made.
And I say that as someone who often found Punk extremely annoying and often got worked by him (even though he was a babyface at the time…😐)

I'm just glad AEW got that million-dollar gate without Punk. That oughta hold the SOBs.

I was there live, and being part of a massive crowd chanting "f*** CM Punk" was both surreal and incredibly cathartic given how utterly ridiculous this whole situation has been.

Question to FAN: How much did your opinion change about Punk recently as opposed to say 8 months ago? How would you debate your old self if your opinions have changed.

This has been made clear time and time again yet the likes of Meltzer as recently as a week or two ago when Colt faced Jericho were still trying to parrot the idea that Punk went to Tony and tried to get Colt fired. It's pretty obvious what happened. Tony was barely using Colt anyway and wasn't going to renew his contract. The Bucks went to Tony and asked him to keep Colt. TK agreed not to release Colt and re-signed him to a ROH deal. The Bucks and/or Page assumed Punk was politicking to get their friend fired and Page has that unscripted worker's rights line to Punk in support of Colt. Punk is pissed off because everyone from his co-workers to dirtsheet writers to fans are saying that he tried to get Colt fired and this goes on for months when Tony could have cleared the whole thing up in the beginning by telling The Elite and the rest of the locker toom that it was his doing and not Punk's that Colt wasn't being used.

Question to FAN: How much did your opinion change about Punk recently as opposed to say 8 months ago? How would you debate your old self if your opinions have changed. My opinion pretty much shifted from, "He seems like an asshole who has some standards and has mellowed out a bit," to, "No, he's just a prick," while as a performer he kind of just went from someone where intellectually I looked forward to but was being largely underwhelmed by to me looking back and going, "Other than some of those promos with MJF and maybe the Kingston match you could've cut out all of that and I don't think my viewing experience would be made notably worse for it." Not going to say everything he did in AEW was bad by any means, far from it, but it has kind of landed with me since that for the most part it was just kind of, "Eh, this is fine," for me.

I had no idea how correct that statement would prove to be.

Question to FAN: How much did your opinion change about Punk recently as opposed to say 8 months ago? How would you debate your old self if your opinions have changed. When Punk came back I briefly changed my name to "Charming Mothman Punk" because I was a huge fan! Suffice to say he's kinda destroyed that. I don't know that I could debate my old self on it on grounds other than showing the spots of him failing to do the Buckshot twice and saying "Don't get excited, everything after MJF is a drag"

Question to FAN: How much did your opinion change about Punk recently as opposed to say 8 months ago? How would you debate your old self if your opinions have changed. There's a fine line between genius and insanity, I always thought he was a bit of a flawed genius. In aew I thought he'd mellowed, matured and was into his fueds with Eddie and MJF. But his insane rant basically destroyed his legacy because it was wrapped up in him being "the voice of voiceless" but that's now hollow as it's clear he only ever cared about himself. Really should have known when one of his biggest complaints about WWE was not being allowed a sponsor on his ring-gear. That's not to say he sucked or never did anything positive for others, I'll still view the Joe matches, Jeff fued, summer of Punk (various times) etc highly. I guess I'll now see him as someone that walked so others could run but have no desire to ever see or hear from him again.

Question to FAN: How much did your opinion change about Punk recently as opposed to say 8 months ago? How would you debate your old self if your opinions have changed. I was such a big fan of Punk and was happy that he apparently was happy. Then the mask came off with that scrum. The miserable prick that he's been rumored to be since his ROH days came to the forefront. He was one of my favorite wrestlers ever and he had some great matches from his short time in AEW. What he lacked in polish and finesse he more than made up for with masterful in-ring storytelling. Now? If I was able to make it to Newark last night, I would've been chanting "f*** CM Punk!" with everyone else.
