I think the people claiming this is a work are forgetting one very important aspect:
It actually has to lead to something worth it. Right now if its a work, its Russo WCW era level. Which isn't good. You are making your own goddamn company look awful because of this.

I just find myself amused that Punk is one further public event away from doing a Chuck McGill style meltdown:  "He – he covered his tracks, he got that idiots in the Elite to protect him. You think this is something? You think this is bad? This? This chicanery? He's done worse. That stuff about him being sent to ROH! Are you telling me that kind of rumor just happens to come out like that? No! He orchestrated it! Scotty! He laughed about CP Munk! And I paid him! And I shouldn't have. ^ It wasn't just Meltzer and Alvarez...he first singled out the first reporter, pressing him on his relationship with Cabana. Completely uncalled for. I rewatched the entire thing, and I think the only person he put over during the entire thing was Moxley. Everyone else was someone who has somehow disrespected him...even almost putting TK in the same negative box he has both Vince and Colt in. Absolutely insane. He put over Mox but also had to say he’s a bigger star than him and had to lift him up. The only other people he put over is… His wife. His dog. Danhausen (for the boots) Mindy’s Bakery |

I’m 95% sure this is a work. I think they wanted to turn Punk heel and thought this was the only way to get real heat for him in a modern world. Punk is such a masterful mic worker that he doesn't need to do that. |

I mean, in the sense where it’s paid off in the end and actually benefited the company and the wrestlers involved?

Sometimes I think people claim something is a work in order to seem like they're ahead of the curve on something. Like they're more clever than the rest of us.
But at the end of the day, it's just presuming something on the basis that there is a chance you may be proven right.
You may as well just mention every single day that it's going to rain. Eventually you will be correct.

In what way does it benefit them to go a route where the company looks disorganized? Why would Punk criticize people who aren't with the company and even criticize people not by name? Who is going to be attracted to watching this who isn't watching already? Why would you turn your top draw heel when you already have a money rematch for the title in place? If it's a work...why would this not be on the show itself? And better yet, why would anyone who thought this was a work feel this would draw eyes? Like this isn't Punk sitting on a ramp and cutting a promo on a wrestler. This is a guy who tears into multiple people and comments on vague things that have zero to do with AEW. How does Martha Colton factor into the next AEW event, which would probably do another good gate without any of this? There is not a company or a product on the planet that should market itself as clown shoes second rate. |
