I left this thread at page 8 and woke up to it at 36 and it kept counting....
This is stupid as shit and if it is made into an angle, it will still be really f***ing stupid regardless....

Willing to bet this is an elaborate work in effort to gain momentum and get the internet talking. Punk is going heel and its going to be a whole company vs Punk type of thing. I’ll take that bet. Yeah. This isn't a work. People are talking more about the backstage machinations than what's happening on-screen. It makes no sense. This is just a company going through extremely public growing pains.

The trend with AEW is that things start as a shoot, and then they cleverly make it into a work. MJF and the dud explosion during the barbed wire match, bring examples. Basically. If the hatchet is buried and Punk/Hangman decide to work with each other in the future, then it can be spun as a "work", or at least used in the angle for heat. But anyone who thinks going off on Colt Cabana and his mother is somehow related to a storyline is fooling themselves.

That Punk wasn't competitive in UFC doesn't mean that he took nothing away from all that MMA training.
Obviously even a low tier pro fighter can rock him, but I'd still like his chances against someone who's athletic training consists of basically full contact gymnastic routines.

This is f***ing exhausting. I enjoyed the show last night, then woke up and saw this.
Don't care if it's shoot, work, or workshootshootymcworkface. I just want good kayfabe from professional wrestlers, with professional being the operative word. Get your shit together, guys, this isn't what fans want out of AEW.

By the way, I watched Punk's presser before going to the gym this morning, and all I could think about was having a cupcake/muffin post workout. Thanks for nothing, Punk.

I was thinking of going to the NY show in a few weeks but if there’s going to be a bunch of work/shoot promos I’ll pass.

I really want to know what Punk meant by saying The Bucks and Hangman have done nothing in this business. Like, is he talking about just going to WWE? Because if we’re talking about money made in an indy run, arguably the Bucks did way more shit than he did Much as I can't stand the Bucks, they were effectively the reason you wanted to work the independent scene. Before them, the indies was largely where your career was winding down or if you had no life skills to transition away from the business. Then these two guys come along and make it so that you did want to go to the local armory or YMCA and see what the fuss was about. As much as Punk would like to brag about being a difference maker back in the 2000s,those guys who can't run a Target managed to do more.

Honestly, reading about all this backstage drama for the past few weeks has been really concerning for me as a fan. I’ve been a wrestling fan for 26 years now and AEW has pretty much kept my fandom alive during the past year and a half, I really don’t want to see the company explode due to ego’s backstage. For better or worse, wrestling has been a big part of my life and it’s helped me maneuver some really dark times.
The line between “work” or actual tension has been blurred since the whole MJF incident in Vegas and I have not enjoyed all the backstage drama that’s followed since. If it’s a work, then I’m not at all a fan of the “Russo style car crash” booking of making everything a worked shoot. AEW’s in ring talent and product is good enough that they don’t need to go that route.
If there’s actually dissension backstage, then Tony Khan needs to put on his big boy pants and stop trying to be everyone’s friend and start being a boss. His word has to be the law and he can’t just sit next to a superstar while he airs the company’s dirty laundry.

If he'd heard Punk start sounding off and just stood up to say "thanks everyone, we're done", I'm not sure how that would've gone.
