He worked himself into a shoot and got triggered when Hangman said he was saving AEW from him Wow he sure proved Hangman wrong! As someone that just wasn’t feeling Punk’s run, I loved that line but totally thought it was in-story. I didn’t even believe Big Daddy Dave’s “it’s like Bret and Shawn” reports. I just thought he was trying to amplify what was a pretty dull feud. In conclusion, Phil’s an idiot lol

I think Phil needs to realise wrestling can't make him happy
He joined the hottest new promotion, increases its buyrates and ratings, got given their world title twice, had a critically Acclaimed year as a.top babyface everybody loved, and STILL felt the need to nuke the place from orbit
Find a new hobby, Phil. Wrestling clearly isn't worth it

I think he was really happy for at least his first six months or so in the company. He got that all-time great pop upon his return that showed his fans still cared about him even years after his self-imposed exile.
He seemed to be having the time of his life working with a mix of established and especially up-and-coming wrestlers. The program with MJF was something he appeared very into.
But that weird shoot promo from Hangman right before Punk took the title from him came at the worst possible time since Punk had to take months off right after. Had he not been injured, the beef could have maybe been squashed right away. Instead, Punk spent three months at home, in pain, deprived of sleep, and just seething about it. To make matters worse, while he was away, the Bucks and whoever else just started gossiping about him and some stuff that was very personal.
If I had to guess, I’d say that’s where Punk probably started thinking “Yeah, no matter where I go, there’s always gonna be this gross political bull**** in wrestling.”
