Like, his promo last night was actually pretty good. He moved away from the ’2024/WWE stuff’ and actually tried to do a bit of forward progression in the Moxley feud (ugh, I’d rather Bryan win) — but he had to pause his rant at least five different times to remind the crowd to boo him. It was distracting, taking away from the content of what he was actually saying.
IDK. It could just be New York, and it might be even worse next week, but there’s no real urge to boo this man. There was. And then he cut that worked shoot.
That worked shoot. So dumb. Not because of where it could have gone, but for what they’ve done with it. He’s off TV for months. He comes back. And it seems that both he and AEW can’t decide how important his beef with Tony is, in any given week. The most lasting impact of it is that it might have turned the company’s top heel into someone that should get a turn, which wouldn’t have happened if he was just quietly given time off after Double or Nothing.
I’m also not sure how much different things would be if Punk was around, except it’d be kinda funny (and sad) to see Punk lose his shit because MJF is getting cheered.

MJF is from New York, it's definitely playing a factor
Some peeps are just fans of him despite that too, but good on MJF for not wavering character wise

Tis a tough sitchy-ation. There’s a part of me that thinks they should just go with it it. Make him an anti hero tweener. But there’s a danger in “turning the company heel” because of it. You’d have to rearrange a lot of moving parts including strengthening some heels (which they already need to do) considering MJF is their strongest.
There’s another part of me that appreciates MJF’s commitment and I’m like “ehhhh f*** it, keep him heel forever”.

I'm on Season 7 of Shameless right now and Fiona is such a monster that if MJF just straight up called me a tranny I'd clap and cheer. Sorry Max but I've seen the devil and she's a worn down woman taking it out on her siblings cause she doesn't know how much PAIN she's in.

I do kind of think MJF tends to be at his most interesting when he's playing more of a tweener role. Think it'd bare considering trying to build toward throwing some kind of monster heel at him to kind of reposition him as still a total asshole but one you can root for.

The easiest way for MJF to get heat would be if he uses that chip as a MITB briefcase to cash in during Danielson vs Mox match...

1- The Time Away Made Heart Grow Fonder
2- He was basically the CM Punk's Mortal enemy and well...

I felt the alcohol/demon stuff was low-hanging fruit but I agree that the crowd wants to cheer him...It's definitely interesting

For the most part AEW crowds have been good at playing along with the good guy/bad guy dynamic and AEW has been quick to switch things up if the crowd does turn either way (apart from Cody)
I think with MJF it’s a case of him being away for a while and the location of the shows. I don’t think he’s getting turned babyface anytime soon but I would love them to try and book him as one eventually.

After GrandSlam they will be in Philly so hopefully there it makes easy for MJF to heel up.

He's basically a hero in New York and there was doubt he'd even be coming back a month ago. Even so there were definitely still boos.

MJF is different and one of a kind. Keep him exactly the way he is. If they cheer, let them, kinda like an inverted-Cena.
People appreciate his commitment to his craft. People enjoy being roasted too, no? It'll be fun to see his promos of him trying to make people hate him.

I think its both that 1- The Time Away Made Heart Grow Fonder 2- He was basically the CM Punk's Mortal enemy and well... 3- He's very talented and a lot of fans want to cheer him. It already seems like the heel act is coming off as more & more forced. I thought the cheap heat filled promo to force an inorganic heel reaction was pretty bad. I'd stop fighting it.

I definitely think he has wise ass babyface potential. If there ever was a guy in this day and age who can really pull off a face character that is similar to The Rock’s babyface character, it’s MJF.

I felt the alcohol/demon stuff was low-hanging fruit but I agree that the crowd wants to cheer him...It's definitely interesting Ironically, despite now being the "Anti-Punk", he reached directly into the CM Punk bag of Promo techniques to go after Mox. I'm sure this is intentional.

What about Ricky Starks? That’s a good call. One of the other. Heck, in my perfect world, those two would feud for years and switch allegiances a lot. Lol
