I wanted to talk about this for a bit of time and felt like now was a pretty good time. Why is AEW being raked over the coals for this? It seems like a nothing burger that is being blow up to a huge degree. Then it always goes to the Brodie Lee story, and how that was kept quiet...There's a big difference in not telling "the sheets" that one of your co-workers, and friend to a lot of the roster, is very ill and it's looking like it could be terminal and leaking that someone in the locker room is being a dick. The latter is much more acceptable as gossip. Spilling the former makes you a shitty human. Spilling the latter is "working".
What kills me about this handwringing/concern trolling about how AEW has the "culture of leaking" and how they'd better fix it. Look, wrestling has improved a lot of things about its awful culture. I just don't see "guys running to the sheets" ever changing. This is a not an AEW problem.
People have tried to control what comes out of their locker rooms, and it usually doesn't work. I mean both WCW and WWF tried to have some sort of inroads with Meltzer. Dave kept chugging online and stuff still got out there (both bad info and stuff that was right), which is why ole Bruce and Bischoff hate his guts.
Hell, Dana White tried to do that same thing with Sherdog.com. Then The Ultimate Fighter spoilers got leaked by Josh Gross back when the show was really popular. It got real nasty on the UFC end. About ten years later, something similar happened with Ariel Helwani.
It's a battle you're not going to win.

WWE shows get leaked every time, NXT leakers have been punished and people have been banned from tapings due to it, we've had entire legendary threads dedicated to Impacts leaks, and their fake ones to "throw off the fans".
Leaks happen everywhere, there are even leaks of shit like GRAND THEFT AUTO 6's early build, which just happened recently, or the ENTIRE Popeye movie in animatic form, multiple episodes of a Rick and Morty season a few years back got leaked before they premiered, and this was rampant with Steven Universe as well
This isn't a wrestling thing, it's getting easier and easier to leak content to the world in every medium.

If your entertainment company has a hundred-something employees, it's pretty much impossible to keep all of them from talking.
I have an issue if it comes out that someone from the AEW office leaked information about an employee's mental health

The answer is pretty simple, there are people online who make it their entire gimmick to hate AEW and concern troll it for every little thing that may go wrong or may be seen as an "issue". They run a "sloppy shop", they're "Going to die if this keeps up" We don't have that level of person here on FAN, but there has been a level of concern trolling and pattern by certain users about this kind of thing, and I'm far from the only one who has pointed it out. Idk why AEW brings out some of the worst in people when it's helped move wrestling forward in ways not seen in over 20 years, but the wrestling fan can be a very toxic beast, and you see that a lot, especially with AEW not being a flash in the pan, and being an outright success like it has. So, the leaks are treated as a scandal, when they aren't, but they want to will it so.

Someone lower on the rung has higher chances to do this, like the AEW Tapings leaker being a DARK Jobber.

The GTA example is a poor one because that wasn't someone "in the know" talking to IGN or Jason Schreier off the record. That was a breach by a malicious third party entity. The former is an annoyance and probably a fireable offense especially if the employee is bound to an NDA. But let's just say that the Feds aren't going to investigate someone shit talking the Young Bucks to Meltzer or SRS.

There really seem to be a section of fans that either grew up with only the WWE or the idea that there is more wrestling now is to much etc, that just want wrestling to go back to 1 company and anything that matters is in WWE. I don't really understand that mind set that's for sure.

I don't really understand that mind set that's for sure. That's what's called "Tribalism". They treat the company almost like it's their friend and it cares about them, and other companies and wrestling are "The enemy" It really is a conditioning tactic, not helped by the fact any time they talked about WCW for the last twenty years, it was outright "History is written by the victors" shit. Oh and let's not forget before you came to WWE you were "A nobody wrestling in bingo halls and local armory's"

I think it's just a case of the negative stuff all happening at once while WWE has a new regime so there's a honeymoon period for them and it makes the AEW stuff look a lot worse... now that's about the stuff before the Punk/Elite fight which is another issue in itself.
I always believe that things are never as bad as they seem or as good as they seem. I also think things will even out quicker as well

Because there was recently a public spectacle with the world champion tearing into executives of the company (who also happen to be some of the top star wrestlers) accusing them of leaking false info about him to dirtsheet writers which led to all of them being suspended and potentially fired. You can do all you can to stop them but it's virtually impossible to stop leaks. They will never not happen but it's not difficult to realize why they're being particularly focused on right now after that press conference and backstage brawl.

The amount of concern trolling that happens on Reddit about crap like is why I’ve pretty much abandoned Squared Circle.
It’s a bigger deal because after a few years of perceived peace and harmony, and now that bad things are leaking fans rush to that too make bold things about things falling apart and such. They’ve been waiting for years to do this. WWE always had leaks and always had shit happen for decades, but it’s not a big deal anymore for them to have controversy on this level.
Basically the vultures are out, who hated that another company is having success and they will pounce on any controversy that happens, not matter if it’s really a big deal or not.

Isn’t it becoming a big deal because Punk directly brought this up as a point of contention during Muffin-gate? And then Malakai just expressed his unhappiness with his mental health issue discussion he had with AEW leaking. So it’s the talent bringing it up as an issue that has seemingly made it a topic of discussion.

I have an issue if it comes out that someone from the AEW office leaked information about an employee's mental health I mean is it really any different than when there was the WWE leak that Kurt Angle was on death watch and they literally thought he was going to die? Yes, because that was done in an attempt to get enough pressure on Kurt to go to rehab or even just take a break. They knew he was going to keep working if he could and wanted to wash their hands of the situation. I don't think anyone actually knew how bad Kurt was until the past few years, it was widely assumed at the time that the talent under 24 hour supervision was Benoit due to Eddie and that only strengthened due to everything else we know about now.

Whoever leaked the stuff about Malakai's mental health to bottom feeders like Raj Giri is scum. Plain and simple.

I think the Malakai Black thing kinda took it over the edge. Punk’s complaints and inferences were kinda whatever to me, but Black’s stuff laid bare a lot that I would imagine he intended to be private between him and his employer.
Spoilers and leaks have become a big part of wrestling and AEW tries to be transparent about most things. Even the backstage fight seems like common knowledge. I think stuff like injuries and mental health need to be separated from spoilers and gossip. That goes for any company.

The Brodie stuff seems to me less like "Oh yeah nobody ever leaked back then" and more "Everyone understood the gravity of a situation and respected their dying colleague's wishes to keep it quiet". It always felt like holding that situation up as some kind of gold standard proof everyone is bad now was some real short-sighted and petty nonsense. Nothing about the CM Punk situation is important or halfway toward the gravity that situation had, and it feels like it gets held up less as a means of respecting how everyone let the family do things on their terms, and more as some kind of gotcha to grind down on far less important goings-on.
