Punk wins MITB 13 instead of Orton and cashes in on Bryan becoming what he hated 2 years prior and then they have a banger of a Main Event at mania 30. This would have to require a massive butterfly effect. Punk would have to remain face for his 2012 title run and maybe lose to a heel Orton who loses the title to the Rock. So Punk would have to chose between a mania main event or a match with the Rock. He may have been able to stay with WWE for an extra year atleast as well.

And on top of that... Vince apparently hated that one ppv title match they had at... Over the Limit?

Four months before 'Mania 30, Punk looked like death warmed up, was so banged up he could barely do a quarter of his moveset and had a baseball sized lump on his arse that turned out to be a potentially lethal staph infection. There was absolutely no f***ing way he was going to put a banger at 'mania.
So in hindsight, it was for the best they didn't go with Punk.

Corporate Man Punk, clean shaven, with a suit and all his tattoos covered up with makeup could've been money.
"Why fight against the system when I can be exactly what they're looking for?"

Maybe not instead of Orton but yeah I think corporate Punk could have been cool to explore.
On an unrelated note, I hate that we never got a proper Rock v Orton feud and match. They were really fun together during the Mania 20 tag match.

I believe the courts qualified it was closer to a golf ball But yeah, Punk was not in great shape at the time... even without the Staph Infection (that wasn't MRSA but the much easier treated version), he needed time off regardless.

I SO would have been down for a corporate Punk selling out to Vince. Abandoning his principles and just realizing he wants to be the best at all costs going up against Cena.
That would be way more satisfying than the idea of Cena cutting off all of the support he had from his kid fans. I just don’t find that believable with John’s character up to that point. Like I can buy Cena has an ego and he wants to be on top, I don’t buy him suddenly becoming Mr. McMahon’s right hand guy. Now if *Punk*, Mr, Punk Rock Rebel sells out to the “evil empire”, THAT would be a hundred times more jarring.
