Weirdly, it probably worked out great for old Stone Cold. Has a hell of a brawl with KO, giving him a much better sendoff than his original one. Then because of all the chaos that’s been going on the rest of the year, he was able to just quietly slip back into retirement without being constantly asked about a full or part time return. Win-win.

It's crazy to think that Stone Cold coming back and working a match seems to have almost feels like it has fell into the "oh by the way that happened too" cliff notes of this year. Tells you how wild the whole year has been when that only seems to get a passing mention. On that note the match was KO was a ton of fun and made for a nice little send-off for his career. I am still kind of shocked he wrestled KO of all people since I always felt he would have either came back for a match against Punk or Cena.

Also pretty amazing that he got to do a spot with Vince. Basically Vince's last angle, really putting a bow on things (except for his two weeks of strategic grandstanding before being shuffled off).

Also may be arguably the greatest achievement in KO’s career. Austin has said that he was able to do one last match if the circumstances warranted it, and KO was that guy.

KO has really had an insane WWE run. Was NXT champ in what? 4 months? Beat Cena CLEAN in under a year. Was IC champ in a great rivalry with Ambrose. Had the great series with Zayn. The Shane feud. Was part of Bryan's comeback match. Had the great run with Jericho. Wrestled Goldberg. And main evented Wrestlemania against one of the legit biggest stars of all time. I'm sure I'm missing something... but dude is HOF caliber already.

Even this felt so long ago with the news of CM Punk going CM Punk, Flair's 'final' match, etc. This year has been a strange trip.

Retired with dignity at 38. (Cant believe he was so young, especially when so many big stars are well into their forties in WWE today!)
Came back at 57 and somehow managed to retire with dignity again.

The fact that Austin was done at 38 is mind blowing to me Dude’s entire full-time run in the WWF/WWE was only like seven years, and that includes two separate long absences in 1999/2000 and 2002/2003, so it was closer to only five full years of active Steve Austin.

Sami has said, basically him and KO feel like they will not doing anything bigger than they did this past Mania and are completely fine with it in regards if they retired today they would be happy tho Sami said he is only real goal is to hold the WWE title once I am a little surprised they didn't get KO to do Broken Skull Sessions but probably a lot for him to fly to Austin to film and then hit the road considering he has a family tho would def love to hear a convo between those two on how the match went in their heads

A very small number of things have ever made me want to watch WWE again even for one show, but this match was definitely one.
What an outrageous year for wrestling 2022 has been.

Wrestled in the third and final match of the Wrestlemania trilogy with Rock for his original sendoff. That feels like a better way to go out than in a brawl with KO where Steve isn't even wearing his gear. With that caveat, I loved the match with KO and was elated to see Steve wrestle one more time. The Vince stuff is weird but somehow appropriate that Steve was the last person to lay hands on him in a ring. At least until they wheel out Vince's corpse at Wrestlemania someday and Kane comes back to violate him, thus continuing the Katie Vick angle.

It was such a special moment.
Its amazing that people who weren't born or who were too young to remember his career got to see him wrestle.

I haven't seen the new match but the original one was one of the two top names in wrestling history going out in a relatively brief midcard match. I understand not wanting to make too much out of it but he definitely could have got more than that

That feels like a better way to go out than in a brawl with KO where Steve isn't even wearing his gear. Looking at it from Austin's POV he was in a horrible place at the time. Having panic attacks and ended up in hospital the night before thinking he was having a heart attack. It didn't sound like he enjoyed it all. I think it was more of a "let's get this over with" thing. At least this one was more on his own terms and he was able to soak it all in. In his home state of Texas too. Plus, I know it's like a tradition for wrestlers to lose their last match and I agree they should 95% of the time but Austin is one of the rare cases were I think it's better for him to win. People wanted to see him go out beating a bad guy and drinking some beer.
