Weirdly, from all accounts from people who go, nobody’s ever been asked to not address or ask any question about any topic at either a WWE or AEW scrum.
Which feels weird but I believe it because if it did happen, we’d have heard about it a while ago.
EDIT: I can’t find them specifically but a lot of stuff comes from Fightful staff.

Have there been any reports that reporters were instructed not to ask about Logan Paul? Or did the reporters just drop the ball?

Have there been any reports that reporters were instructed not to ask about Logan Paul? Or did the reporters just drop the ball? I think WWE PR is smart enough not to directly instruct reporters not to ask difficult questions. They just weren’t allowing any reporters they weren’t certain were WWE allies and would avoid the hard-hitting questions to ask any questions at all.

If any reporters were instructed to not ask questions, we’d have known about it and it’d be a bit of a PR hit with people asking “Why are they ignorning _____?!” but aren’t going to get Brandon to ask a question when someone else will ask something more friendly to the talent. Also, you can’t make a policy for something nobody’s going to potentially break 95% of the time.

I really thought somebody would ask about it at the press conference. Incredibly disappointing all around. You should by now that 2024 has shown that the "wrestling media" at large are nothing more than groveling marks masquerading as "journalists" who will pretend to be so just so they can get access to the biggest wrestling company in the world. And if that means not stepping on any toes and not actually acting like journalists and asking legitimate serious questions, then so be it. This paints everyone with a very broad brush when there are guys like Pollock, Thurston, Alba and even SRS at times that do the work. There are definitely a lot of folks who are just “content creators” - and to be clear, that’s their prerogative, but there are reporters that do the work. Also, we’re all marks. We’re wrestling fans.

Just remembered this company sells Pride merch. You'll never see me look to wrestling companies (or really any company) for allyship, but the clown makeup and big red nose this particular one puts on constantly never ceases to astound me. Didn't they do pride stuff with Warrior's widow?

Didn't they do pride stuff with Warrior's widow? That was for their breast cancer awareness campaign. Dana Warrior did make a Pride post in Warrior face paint on social media about 5 or 6 years ago. It drew a mixed response, to put it mildly.

If you guys want journalists to take a stand for it cans should too, they shouldn't wait for journalists to be the ones But as is aid nothing is gonna change ,next week is business as usual. I mean that's how things should be in a perfect world but all we can really get are assumptions now because they didn't even do the dirt worst basic PR speak of "we accept everyone, everyone has their own views" as Feargus said that we'd all roll our eyes at knowing that is likely bullshit. Yes I know they've been known for way longer as not specifically "Feargus" but any opportunity to say Feargus McReddit I'm going to take it. Instead, we had no reporters saying anything, no real allusions to it in the storyline except the commentators 10000000000000000% taking his side during the match glazing the everloving f*** out of him talking about "controversy" like it isn't a blatant human rights discussion and more about if he's trying to say Sonic Spinball is better than Sonic Mania. For me the aftermath doesn't read as them more or less saying keep it to wrestling and everything else doesn't matter, them not wanting to do the most basic of corporate speak sure looks like a f*** off and we don't want "you people" here. Which is fine, probably will end up dialing it back or not watching anymore but they had a chance to show they were even slightly different from the past and they blew it. That's one person though. To get the conversation really rolling, somebody at that press conference or ANYONE in the media over the weekend saying something would've really helped. Instead it is supposed to be entirely forgotten and looks like it will be. Expecting people who were genuinely annoyed/offended/mad/etc. at this to listen to Pat McAfee every week and continue as usual seems like a tall ask.

I think the weirder thing about Logan Paul’s tweets not being asked about, to me, was because, well, it was big news on the day it came out. He was spreading misinformation and had a big platform on doing it and responded with a non-apology. He’s still some kind of name that people would write stories about, especially when he was associated with others who were spreading that same misinformation. Like, I can get the lawsuit stuff to an extent because there’s only so much right now they can speak about legally (even though I will say again, weird they haven’t gone on a PR storm about changing the culture and just went “Vince’s gone, we solved the whole problem!” but anyway). This was a news story that spread that taints WWE a bit because nothing came from them in the aftermath, especially since it happened before one of their biggest shows of the year. Nobody was at least going to check in to get a PR “We dealt with it internally” thing? Yes I know they've been known for way longer as not specifically "Feargus" but any opportunity to say Feargus McReddit I'm going to take it. And you absolutely should.

I'm sure that the situation around the Backlash scrum and the mention of the WWE PR guy going "What a stupid thing to do" over the Gulak question has had a chilling effect on the journalists, and the way Trips followed it up with comments shitting on other publications can't have helped. The response made very clear how they see these sorts of questions, and I think the apology baskets to Fightful and PWI were more about making up for an executive saying something than about the actual conduct. They've made clear what the culture around this stuff is and now it's trivial to perpetuate it.

Pollock wasn’t let in last night, btw. I’m sure that was on purpose.

Which then leaves just leaves a question; why have press scrums if you're going to get antsy about people asking questions and not put rules down beforehand if it'll be such an issue? Just have Cathy Kelly interview HHH after the show with pseudo-kayfabe questions about the booking if you're going just not to tow the line overtly to the people going. I can likely get the answer and it's the one you're saying along with that it looks better to have media involved in stuff but it also feels like something where the solution costs less financially and the same outcome can come from it.

Sean Ross Sapp is doing pseudo-tough-guy “you wouldn’t say this to my face” posturing in response to people asking why he didn’t ask about Logan Paul so that’s another wrestling “journalist” not worth a shit.

SRS got on my shit list when he paraded his charcuterie board he got from WWE, and then tried to defend himself in the most clueless and clown-shoes way possible. Good to see that he has confirmed I made the right decision.

Dude is constantly attacked on social media. People saying shit about his wife, dead grandmother, etc. the people asking the question aren’t asking it in good faith, which is why you get that response. It’s not how I’d handle it, but he’s not responding to people asking in good faith. Look at how he responds to criticism from guys like Bix vs. what is happening today.

SRS is undeniably a good, credible journalist. The problem is he had an ego about it even before he had reached that point. He likes the smell of his own farts. Good journalist though.
