I'm not sure why Darby hasn't been featured in the world title picture yet. Is it his size? Wreckless style?
I feel other than that he has so much going for him. Connection to sting...unique look...unique connection to fans. Will he ever be world champ or realistic contender?

I think Darby could be, he is over enough and has a unique look
Darby needs a few big time wins in singles action to be in the conversation

Seems like they were building him up as a big “homegrown” baby face star at the beginning of AEW. Feud with Cody, that tag match with Mox, being a pillar (when it meant something) but since losing the TNT Title he has had all these side feuds with Sting. He could be World Champ, but I don’t see it happening for a while.

He was. Then he started losing singles matches to almost everyone. Wouldn't take much to rebuild him though.
I'm sure he'll at least be a contender, just they can afford to wait for now as Sting helps keeps him featured and over.

Yeah I don't understand the booking with Darby lately-he has been losing a lot in the last couple on months or coming up short. He certainly has potential to be a AEW champion and I think it is very likely he will be one in due time. For what it is, he can easily rebound from his booking so long as he isn't booked as a total jobber.

Around 2019/20 I could maybe have seen it in the not too distant future. Now though there are so many people ahead of him in the pecking order I'm not sure when/if the opportunity will arise.

Darby, by the very nature of his character being that one "gives" by taking insane bumps and ass whoopings on a consistent basis, is gonna have an uphill battle in terms of remaining at the top of the card because...well, guys who take all those ass whoopings usually don't stay top guys for long in an environment where you are encouraged to "take" , lol.
It can certainly happen BUT I feel like it's much more likely it doesn't happen and, for better or worse, his style is a big part of that. It's too easy of a crutch for a booker to fall back on.

AEW has become a more promo heavy company since it's inception, that change in structure has highlighted MJF while also hurting Darby and Jungle Boy.

Somebody brought up the allegations recently and it made me wonder if that’s why TK just sort of lets him hover at his level.

Could see him winning it, but probably not holding it long term.

I wouldn't be surprised if they went the Mankind route if they eventually pull that trigger. A thank you reign once or twice, but it really depends on how long Darby plans on being in the business.
Personally, I would rather see him and Sting as tag champs for a brief reign first.

I wonder how he would fare in wwe.
I think he needs to be a top guy or he's spinning his wheels in aew. I would rather support Darby than hangman or some of the other title contenders.

He's popular enough and even if he's more if an attraction now he's protected in gimmick matches so I don't think it'd be tough to make him into a world champ

The MJF match and feud showed he absolutely could be. He is as close to a young Jeff Hardy AEW can get. When MJF wins the belt I’m hoping the younger AEW guys will get that chance in the main event we’ll see.

While Allin is capable of technical wrestling, his tendency to do risky stunts in and out of the ring would likely give Tony a pause about a World title reign, since the title would just be vacated again if Allin isn't careful.

When MJF wins the belt I’m hoping the younger AEW guys will get that chance in the main event we’ll see. Me too. Was reading up a thread on squaredcircle that talked about how telegraphed and predictable the heavyweight title has been: “so and so’s going to get it, then blank, then,.” even now we know Mox is keeping the belt warm for MJF. I hope when MJF gets it we return to a sense of unpredictability in terms of who he’ll lose it to. There seemed to be a small, yet popular sentiment, that the recent Tournament was a good time to give Darby a shock win and Nope.

I truly thought it was gonna happen even if for a transitional reign in 2020...

Definitely gives off Jeff Hardy vibes, but Tony seems to like jobbing guys who can overcome a lot of losing and still stay over (Darby, Eddie, Orange Cassidy, etc). Not sure Darby is ever going to get to the world title, but he'll always be featured.

I think bringing in Punk waylaid a lot of main event pushes. I really think they wanted him to have a lengthy reign as champ and there weren't too many people to move into that spot once everything went off the rails. I personally associate Darby as a tag wrestler with Sting right now and they would need to rebook him significantly to get him to the singles main event. As someone else said, it could be done, but it wouldn't be fast.

I don't "get" Darby, but he's popular enough that it's still possible. Wrestling is what the powers that be make of it, so he could go on a run and be an underdog champ once the title has some stability again in the future. Though he would probably work best as a transitional reign - beating someone like MJF and immediately dropping it to Swerve or whatever.
EDIT: I should also note that, as much as I love Eddie Kingston, he would also work best as a transitional reign. Let him finally win the big one, and then have someone get massive heat for dethroning him ASAP.
