I figured Behind the Laughter would be the heavy favorite so why f*** around with making a very thorough poll?
Anyway, I recently binged season 33 before it left Hulu and the last episode Poorhouse Rock made me think of this. I could see it working in a really WTF way.
For those who haven’t seen it, it’s all about Bart finally wanting to follow in Homer’s footsteps. But the twist is that the life the Simpsons live just isn’t attainable anymore. Not only could Homer’s salary not support it, but his job most likely won’t even exist for Bart to follow in.
It also has the unusual choice of the entire third act being a musical. It ends on an upbeat note with the further (perhaps unintentional) twist being that the solution given would not work for 99%+ of the audience (unless you read into it deeper).
It would make The Simpsons come full circle. It started as a show about an unglamorous middle class family struggling with real world problems. It ended as a show about a middle class family whose lives look glamorous by comparison of how bad real world problems have left the real world.
Ending on that note would be a great call back to the cynical Simpsons humor that made the show such a standout to begin with.
But we’ve been in Zombie Simpsons mode for over 20 years now. As season 34 rolls on…

Have it go full circle by the family driving to the Christmas pageant at the elementary school.

Not a season finale, but Holidays of Future Passed always felt like it could be a solid ending for the series, especially given it would bookend Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire.

Behind The Laughter was the perfect way to end it.

Homer's Enemy.
By this point, Homer is fully accepted and successful, and the town is as mad as he is.
FFS Homer tells Marge to change the channel at the end of it.

If you want to get real cynical, Miracle on Evergreen Terrace. They've literally lost everything at the end of that episode.

It was actually meant to be. It was looking like the show was done, so it was written as a finale, but obviously Fox decided or was told the show was staying. What I had read was that Fox was going to unceremoniously cancel the Simpsons, Seth MacFarlene told them “You do and I walk”. So they kept the show because Seth was that important to them.

It wasn't a season finale (S9, E24), but I always felt like Lost Our Lisa was the end of my love of The Simpsons. I know a lot of people say that Season 8 was the end of the prime, but I enjoyed varying parts of Season 9 though you could see the turn of the show to more Season 12 mildly funny but overly wacky. The episode had good gags, had Lisa going off on her own, and sharing a nice moment with her imperfect father. That's the last time I enjoyed watching the show live, and honestly it's a great stopping point.

A really stupid, but funny, way to end the series would be the one where Bart doesn't get to see the Itchy and Scratchy movie and later sees it with Homer in the future. I just kind of like the idea of the ending being, "Bart's a judge. This is your only closure on this family and their lives."

I still think a good show ending would be like the 138th Episode Spectacular.
But for a season finale, Behind the Laughter seems like a solid "cherry on top" type of ending.

Who Shot Mr Burns Part 1
Just go full 90s network asshole by ending a beloved series on a cliffhanger.

Who Shot Mr Burns Part 1 Just go full 90s network asshole by ending a beloved series on a cliffhanger. I actually re-edited the thing to serve as a functioning finale. I cut the cliffhanger and used the ending of "I Love Lisa" (because I 'ship Lisa and Ralph)
