If it's just a one-off match then someone he has history with like Edge or Orton.
If he has time for one more decent run (like Jan-Apr) then I'd absolutely have him win the title then drop it in a title v career match at Wrestlemania. I'd much rather Cena than Flair be the guy in canon with the record so I want him to get one more world title. As for who would retire him and take the title, I'd go with either Bron Breakker or GUNTHER. GUNTHER could be amazing. Play it up as can Cena overcome the odds/monster one more time and he puts up a great fight to begin with but in the end GUNTHER is just too much for him.

He needs to finally settle things with Billy Kidman, once and for all!

Actually, his final opponent should be Jon Stewart if we’re settling some old beefs.

I'd want it to be a 'passing of the torch' type of match so I'd have Cena against another face.
If he's able to come back Big E.
Gargano the scrappy underdog versus the man who was all about overcoming the odds would be an interesting story.

Bray Wyatt can Quantum Leap him through wrestling history again, maybe send him through some classic action films too, because why the hell not? lol

Still think it sucks that Cena wasn't Angle's last match when all was said and done just as an aside. I think that moment deserved a full circle. Yeah, did Cena even wrestle that year? It's a perfect example of having the right person end your career. It's like the talks about who should have broken the Undertaker's streak, and a lot of times people would throw out a younger guy, with the intention of using that as the catalyst to "make them" despite that it may be beneficial, and then it makes the legend look like they lost to a nobody. I don't hate Baron Corbin, but he didn't really gain from it, and if anything it looks worse that he did it instead of someone else.

I don't think Cena/Orton has happened as much as people think, TBH, at least on TV and Pay Per View. They had 20 singles matches on TV between 2005 and 2017 and 13 of those happened between 2007 and 2010. They definitely exhausted it in that time, but I think if you turn on the hype machine, they could make it feel special now.
Of note - none of those matches have happened at WrestleMania. Cena/Orton one more time with Orton coming in as champ and Cena trying to get to 17 feels like a good way to kick off his last run with him eventually dropping the belt to somebody like Bron or Melo (assuming those are the two next big top stars).
There's also part of me that thinks Cena did so much for the company that he kind of deserves to go out with a win just because of what he represents. Guy has lost a lot lately.

While it will never happen, I do have to wonder: what would be the reception amongst the majority if they somehow made a new Cena/Orton feud with Heel Cena vs. Face Orton?

I think he'll have a comeback a decade or longer from now so probably someone not even in WWE yet, or at least not an established star.

I just want him to win the IC title before his final match. It’s so weird to me he never got a run with it.

You're talking 55-60 in that world. I think he's done totally by 50, especially if his movie and TV careers continue to flourish.

Surprisingly, settles in NJPW as the Gaijin Battle Dad. Cena vs. Suzuki after John gets sick of him bullying young boys would be lit.
