I'm watching The 1991 Summerslam Spectacular and Virgil is having a match against a Masked Guy paid off by Dibiase who I found out on Wikipedia is Barry Darsow before he became Repo Man and the finish is botched. Darsow hits a suplex on Virgil and goes for an off the ropes splash, apparently Virgil is suppose to roll out of the way.
But he doesn't, instead he just lies there and Darsow lands on him. Darsow then acts has though he missed and rolls off of Virgil clutching his head, and then Virgil remembers what's going on as he rolls over and pins him. Vince and Bobby act as though he had missed although clear as day on the replay that he landed on Virgil.
You can see it here around the 1:30:50 mark

Not sure why you think it’s Darsow when Heenan clearly says the guy is named Murray.
I think the idea was for Virgil to catch him with an elbow or a punch, which he also didn’t do…but maybe you’re right and Virgil tried rolling out of the way with literally a fraction of a second left.

you don't see it in the replay because of the angle change, but he *does* land a punch mid-splash. 1:30:55-56

I totally thought this thread was going to be about his "tribute" tweet to Coolio (RIP) Good grief, Virgil.

If you look closely during DiBiase's pre-match taunting, you can pinpoint the exact moment where Darsow is thinking, "My God, I'm a three-time tag team champion and I'm about to job to Virgil."

You sure can see it. I feel bad for Barry. Summerslam would be his first PPV since Survivor Series 1987 where he was not on a PPV. Demolition were always featured very prominently on PPV starting with Wrestlemania IV. Even Hercules managed to make every PPV of his WWF run. He just narrowly missed Survivor Series 1991 until he replaced Bully. As a kid I would have been able to tell Murray was Smash as the tattoo wasn't covered so well. The mask does hide his face well.

Why does Barry Darsow look so huge as Smash and this masked guy, but he looks really small as Repo Man.

Why does Barry Darsow look so huge as Smash and this masked guy, but he looks really small as Repo Man. I think this is a result of years of gaslighting from WWF announcers that Demolition were these massive dudes, when in fact they were bulky dudes but not really that tall. I get the same effect watching Masked Superstar. Also, I think tag team guys tended to run on the smaller side back then, and when you took Darsow and Eadie out of the tag division and put them in there with other big heavyweights, they just looked like average sized dudes.

To be honest, I was a bit worried opening this thread after reading the title, thankfully it's just a botch.

That's a good point about the Tag Team guys being shorter and the singles guys being taller. Look at this comparison: In 1987 they are clearly the biggest and tallest guys on their team. However the next tallest in the shot is Haku who was probably only around 6'1". Harts, Valentine, Bravo, and Tama only probably 5'11" to 6'0". Now compare that to 1989 where they are clearly both several inches shorter then both Hogan and the deceptively big Jake Roberts who was probably a shoot 6'5" or 6'6". So Eadie and Darsow I would say are both around 6'2" which while tall in the land of the giants era of the WWF in the 80's wasn't big at all especially in the singles ranks when pretty much all the guys getting pushed were a shoot 6'3" or bigger (Hogan, Jake, Duggan, Boss Man, Dibiase, Earthquake etc.)

Hogan, Roberts, Ax and Smash.

Even Hogan while he won didn't look that impressive. Getting beat down by Zeus and saved by disqualifications before finally putting Dibiase away at the end.

Just the way it worked back then. Except for this match to promote the No Holds Barred: The Movie/The Match PPV.

Just the way it worked back then. Except for this match to promote the No Holds Barred: The Movie/The Match PPV. It's not just that it's like almost nothing about the booking of the match made sense. Zeus getting DQed right away I get. Builds up the No Holds Barred match and gets Zeus out of there quick. However then you have Ax and Smash taking back to back pins for Warlord and Barbarian for some reason. Like I would get it if it was heating the Powers of Pain back up as title contenders but Demolition were programmed with Andre and Haku afterwards while Powers of Pain were split into singles three months later. Then you have Powers of Pain lamely getting disqualified for spike piledriving Hogan. Why was so necessary to protect Powers of Pain? Like seriously they couldn't freakin take a pin for Hogan and Jake The Snake. Then at the end you have hated heel Ted Dibiase valiantly fighting the odds two on one against Hogan and Jake and actually almost pulling it off, eliminating Jake before succumbing to Hogan.
