Ring of Honor Wrestling, January 7th, 2020
Ian Riccaboni and Taz welcome us to the first two hour edition of Ring of Honor Wrestling on AXS! As the duo hype up the importance of tonight, Darby Allin makes his way to the ring for tonight’s opening contest, as he challenges Brody King for the ROH World Television Championship. The Horror’s resident big man is out next, dragging the belt behind him. On commentary, Taz notes that while King is clearly proud to be Champion, he doesn’t wear the belt like a Champion would until he’s successfully defended it. Darby launches himself at King as the bell sounds, but King catches him and unceremoniously deposits him to the mat. King stomps at Darby, as the facepainted daredevil continues to fight back to his feet. He punches at the Champion, who swats him away. He grabs Darby and delivers a big clubbing blow across the back, bringing the challenger to his knees. After several minutes of the Champion dominating, Darby starts to fight back, dodging a Brody corner splash and causing King to crash into the turnbuckles. Darby jumps onto King’s shoulders and catches him in a victory roll for a two count. King rolls outside to regroup, only for Darby to come diving through the ropes, hitting him like a missile and knocking him back into the barricade. Darby rolls back in the ring and goes to dive again, but King moves, causing him to crash chest first into the barricade. Brody yanks Darby backwards, causing his spine to crash hard against the ring apron. Rolling the challenger back in the ring, Brody climbs up on the apron, then rolls through the middle and top ropes, dropping his full weight onto Darby. Brody covers, but Darby kicks out! Brody looks flustered by the resiliency of his opponent. He pulls Darby up, but gets caught in a small package for two! Darby scrambles to the top rope, Coffin Drop attempt, but Brody catches him! He re-positions him, Gonzo Bomb! Brody covers and retains! After the match, Darby gets to his feet and goes right up to Brody, staring him down. Brody sticks out his hand and Darby shakes it, the Code of Honor adhered to after an incredible effort by the challenger!
Ian and Taz run down the card for tonight, including a Women of Honor Championship match, the ROH Tag Team Championship, a face-to-face meeting between ROH World Champion Dragon Lee and his brother RUSH, a Fight Without Honor, and our main event, as the former members of The DisHonored collide, when TJP, PCO and Bandido defend the ROH Trios Championship against The SuperKlique. And coming up right now, it’s The Dark Order’s Josh Woods taking on Jeff Cobb in singles action!
Cobb takes the quick advantage against Woods, using his size to overpower him. Woods is able to fight back, bringing Cobb down to the mat and working him over with armbars and headlocks. The Dark Order is at ringside, cheering Woods on, but Cobb is able to power back and plants Woods with a Tour of the Islands. Unfortunately, Evil Uno gets up on the apron, distracting referee Paul Turner. The two masked recruits enter the ring and double chop block Cobb, allowing Woods to lock in the knee-bar to get the submission win. Afterwards, Evil Uno enters and takes the mic. He announces that the recruits have graduated to full membership. Stu Grayson then removes their masks, revealing frequent enhancement talents John Silver and Alex Reynolds. The two give the Dark Order hand sign, as Uno applauds the two newest members of the team.
During the previous match, ROH alumnus Prince Nana was spotted in the crowd. Alex Marvez is out to speak with him. Nana says he is back in ROH and looking to build a new Embassy. He already has his new Crown Jewel, but he needs a good support system. Marvez notices a large man in a suit, with shades and a man-bun and asks if he’s the Crown Jewel. Nana shakes his head. "Alex Marvez, all you need to know about this man is that he is my insurance policy. He will protect me and my Crown Jewel. He has many names, but you can just call him... Mister Wardlow!"
Our next match is for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, as The Horror defends against Best Friends once more. Trent and Chuck are more aggressive in this match than last time they challenged The Horror, taking the fight to Sami Callihan and Madman Fulton. The Champions stand their ground, however, and soon, Fulton and Callihan are in control of Taylor, while Trent is anxiously awaiting the tag. Eventually, Chuck gets there and Trent cleans house. But, just like last time, it’s not long before Callihan is able to hit the Cradle Killer for the Champs to retain. After the match, Callihan grabs the mic and tells The Briscoes to name the time and place for their match…
Backstage, Alisha Edwards is with Shane Taylor. Taylor requested this time, because he feels like he’s gotten lost in the shuffle in this “new” ROH. He issues a challenge to Brody King for the Television Championship next week on Ring of Honor Wrestling.
Up next, it’s a Fight Without Honor, as PAC takes on The Horror’s Joe Doering. It’s been a clean sweep so far tonight for The Horror and Doering is looking to wrap it up in a neat little bow right here. Referee Todd Sinclair is simply there to count pins as the two men slug it out in the beginning, PAC keeping pace with Doering quite nicely. The fight spills out of the ring and into the crowd at one point, before the two fight back to ringside. PAC is sent face first into the ringpost and gets busted open. Doering begins setting up a table in the ring, as PAC is checked out by Doc Sampson at ringside. Doering shoves the doctor out of the way and rolls PAC back into the ring. He pulls him up on the table, looking for a piledriver, but PAC back body drops him to the mat instead. Step up enzugiri by PAC staggers Doering, who then falls on the table. PAC up top, Black Arrow through the table! Instead of the pin, PAC locks in the Brutalizer for the tap out victory! PAC is your winner, ending The Horror’s perfect night!
ROH World Champion Dragon Lee makes his way to the ring next. He talks about how honored he was to win the title at Final Battle, before addressing his brother’s disrespectful behavior. He knows RUSH desires to be Champion, same as him, but he would’ve granted him a title shot if he’d just asked. RUSH makes his way to the ring, accompanied by El Terrible, his Los Ingobernables ally from CMLL. RUSH says that he was supposed to be “the chosen one” of the family. The guy who won all the belts and was praised. Instead, his little brother jumped the line and took HIS moment. And that is the ultimate disrespect, he claims. So now, he is bringing La Faccion Ingobernable to Ring of Honor. He tells his brother to enjoy his time with the title while he can, because he is coming for him. And he reminds Dragon Lee that when you mess with the bull, you get the horns…
Up next, it’s the Women of Honor Championship, with Mercedes Martinez defending against Mandy Leon, who is accompanied by Allure teammate, Brandi Lauren. Leon and Lauren attempt to cheat their way through the match, but Martinez fights back and forces Leon to submit to the Butterfly Lock. After the match, as Martinez is celebrating, she is disrupted by the voice of Vickie Guerrero piercing through the crowd noise. “EXCUSE ME!” Vickie tells Mercedes that the only reason she’s still Champion is because “she” has allowed it. Mercedes asks who she’s talking about, when she gets jumped from behind by Nyla Rose! Rose destroys Martinez, finishing her off with the Beast Bomb, as Vickie cackles from the aisle. The Native Beast has arrived, and she has set her sights on the Women of Honor Championship.
Next week on Ring of Honor Wrestling, ROH World Champion Dragon Lee will speak about his brother, RUSH; The Briscoes take on PJ Black and Mark Haskins; Nyla Rose makes her in-ring debut; The Rascalz face Team SuperBad; RUSH will face Silas Young; and more!
In our main event, the DisHonored explodes, as The SuperKlique challenge their former teammates, TJP, PCO and Bandido for the ROH Trios Championship. PCO dominates The SuperKlique in the early going, tossing around all three men in the opening minutes. Once order is restored, The Young Bucks and Adam Cole isolate TJP in their corner and beat him down. Eventually, TJP gets the tag to Bandido, who comes flying into the ring and takes out Matt and Nick with a dive through the ropes. In the ring, Cole manages to hit a Superkick on Bandido, but misses the Last Shot, running straight into a PCO Chokeslam. In the chaos, referee Rick Knox is knocked out. Bandido manages to get Cole covered and has him beat, but Kevin Steen storms the ring and lays out Bandido with a Pop-Up Powerbomb! The Bucks the hit the BTE Trigger, as Steen revives Knox. Cole covers Bandido and we have new ROH Trios Champions! The show ends with Steen, Cole and The Bucks celebrating over the bodies of their former allies…
