This guy has always fascinated me. Recently I fell down a youtube hole and came across a clip of Cornette talking about him.
Supposedly he was in a real biker gang. Don't think it was Hells Angels level or anything.
His promos are some of the best ever in wrestling. Stuff like that you just can't teach. It holds up even today. He had the size, the look, the charisma of a superstar
He was awful in the ring, just a sloppy brawler type. Didn't have much in terms of stamina and agility. Seems like he was mainly used as the talking head of heel stables.
His death is still a mystery. He just seemed to vanish sometime in the late 70s. There are reports he was stabbed to death in California (bar fight supposedly?) there is a post on a wrestling forum from someone who says she is his daughter (absolutely no way of knowing.. could be any ol person making stuff up) stating he died of liver disease in 1980. Other than that there really is nothing. It's odd how nobody really has any concrete evidence as to what happened to him. He... simply disappeared. Now, let's have no more curiosity about this bizarre cover-up.

Cagematch says he died of Leberversagen at 37.
That translates to liver failure. Apparently after being stabbed in 78 he took to alcohol like a nun to church and died in 80 of liver failure.
Not sure how legit it is tho

Not sure how legit it is tho I've heard that too...but I mean he mustve been drinking like a fish for years before then. If he hit the bottle hard after being stabbed and by 1980 he's already dead? What was he drinking lighter fluid? Just something about this seems odd. I really think if he could've lived anf been active into the 80s he would be much much more well known...it's an absolute lock that Vince would've gotten him around 83/84 to be a mouthpiece to someone and maybe an occasional in ring guy (he would only be about 40). He was enormously talented on camera

I saw this and was wondering why there was a thread on the short lived GWF wrestler.

He’s someone whose name pops up from time to time but I’ve never heard any details about and have never actually seen any of his work. I remember Robert Fuller talking about him as a manager in Tennessee, but only to say that it didn’t work because he was bigger than the guy he was paired with, did all the talking because he so much better at promos, and in the end, Big Bad John had all the heat instead of the wrestler.
I’m going to have to look up some videos, I’m intrigued, especially with the information here that I’d never heard before.

A very severe bout of alcoholic hepatitis can quickly lead to liver failure. Didn’t say acute or chronic. If chronic that means he drank a lot and continued to do so and it did him in. Acute is like the situations above. Chances are he was a heavy drinker got depressed after being stabbed drank harder and died.
