Romeo + Juliet, if I had any say. I wish Baz had just spent the rest of his career doing Shakespeare set in this universe

Romeo + Juliet, if I had any say. I wish Baz had just spent the rest of his career doing Shakespeare set in this universe Baz should have made a gangland Macbeth trying to overthrow Duncan the don and then used his music video style when it gets supernatural with the ghosts. The witches can be pop stars under a mob run label.

Honestly, as great as Waltz was in Django Unchained, I'd argue Leo deserved both the nomination and award for best Supporting Actor more than he did for the same movie. Especially with the skull at the table scene. He legitimately cut his hand bad and stayed in character!

Romeo + Juliet, if I had any say. Personally, I thought both he and Danes were absolutely awful in that movie (though they both looked amazing, and the entire rest of the cast was phenomenal). But I think he shoulda already won supporting actor for Gilbert Grape, anyway.

Harold Perrineau was Mercutio in Romeo+Juliet and he was excellent.

But I think he shoulda already won supporting actor for Gilbert Grape, anyway. Its the weirdest thing with the two of them in Romeo+Juliet. All their non-verbal scenes are fantastic. The initial meeting between the two especially is something both effectively sell with their expressions. Any time they do dialogue though... ooh boy. I wouldn't call their delivery bad as much as it feels incomplete. Like they are putting emotion into their lines, but its clear that they simply don't comprehend what they're saying actually means the way the older actors in the cast do. Its not a knock against them; they're young and making Shakespeare feel natural isn't easy even for older performers. Its not a coincidence that some of the most critically acclaimed stage performers tend to be older talents like Stewart, Jacobi, or McKellen who were both trained in how pull off performing the Bard and have years of experience doing it. Basically its a film where DiCaprio and Danes excel in the music video portions and falter in everything else.
