I liked Konnor well enough and thought he did good with character work. It's just: The Ascension we ended up with didn't ask for any character work. I mean, I even enjoyed his rat gimmick, then he showed he could actually talk serious in the early Ascension vignettes - and then he was forced to rely on in-ring work, which was never his strong point. But he also gained weight and seemingly regressed wrestling wise. Viktor was a fine wrestler, but desperately in need of someone carrying him everywhere else. In NXT they also had no team to properly feud with. Just one or two years later there would have been Revival, American Alpha, DIY and Enzo & Cass as rivals. That would have been their chance to develop into an act with some shelf life.

I don't even remember that Kozlov was his coach. All I remember is the cheese.

The one thing that always comes to mind when I watch this clip is it may be scripted, but holy heck, JBL sounds legitimately pissed about it.

I recall when they debuted on Full Sail NXT with this amazing entrance and had freaky glow in the dark contact lenses and were clearly being set up as world-killers (even beating the Usos at a point where NXT acts would normally job to anyone from the main roster).
Then Kenneth Cameron made the shrewd decision to get drunk and punch a cop, got fired, and it turned out he was kinda the glue holding the entire thing together. And then it just got kind of sad when they kept on trying to do the same thing with Victor, who was a decent wrestler but had been a jobber up until that point and had approximately 0.0001% of the gravitas Cameron did. But there were no other tag teams, so they just... kept being champions despite not being very good or very over.
It wasn't a big shock what happened to them on the main roster, but hey, there'll always be that video game screenshot.

They can't take away his titles.

Just remember that Konnor is married to Krissy Vaine who was on WWE television for exactly one episode of Smackdown, then left on her own accord. Then she wrestled for Lucha Libre USA under the name Nurse Krissy Sealice.(Cialis ) Also Viktor used to be name Rick Victor. Not to be confused with Vicki Richter. (To Google!!! )

Krissy really fit in with the presentation of women wrestlers at that time, shame we didn't get to see more of her in WWE.

I didn't understand them at the time, and I still don't.
One of the earliest examples of that yawning gulf between NXT booking and main roster booking.
But honestly I don't really get how this was a thing they were doing in NXT in the first place, it really seemed like they pretty bad and had the wrong build for their gimmick.
They seemed kinda fun as Cody and Barrett's henchmen, but this is main roster WWE so no fun allowed so that got killed off

From the time that Ascension declared “We’re better than the Road Warriors!” (huh? what?!) they became goobers who deserved to have everyone hit their finisher on them, even by the scrubs on standby in the locker room. JBL, himself a bully by nature, loves such moments; he was too happy to insert himself into the mix. I’m sure JBL was annoyed that he was not involved in the beatdown of Daniel Puder at the Royal Rumble.

I will say, one of the very few episodes of Raw I watched in between 2014 and 2021 was the one where Shane came back, because I'd heard the rumors he'd be back and wanted to see what was going on, and I remember actually LOLing when I saw them come out with their Illuminati Titantron
