You know watching the Honeymooners "Mama Loves to Mambo", it is in my opinion, maybe not the intent of the writers, but the new neighbor / dance instructor was a in the closet gay man. Tell me I am wrong. Who would think a show about a loud fat guy threaten spousal abuse could be progressive.

Not that there is anything wrong with it, he reminds me of Archie Bunker's old friend who turned out to be gay.

There's a podcast I know and sometimes listen to called "Gayest Episode Ever" the latest episode they did was I Love Lucy and a joke about Lucy thinking Ricky is cheating on her with the chorus girls but what they were was dog names and she reacts to a dog name... I forget the year but gayest episode ever is a good podcast. I recommend their podcast on Nikki the WB kind pro wrestling sitcom staring Nikki Cox

Very under rated shows (well the Michael J. Fox seasons at least)

It took them a season to find their footing, and Jennifer Esposito was the final perfect piece to hit it stride.

To the original post, I mean, I supposed it's possible. I doubt that was the intention though from anybody in the shows production or Charles Korvin (who played the dance instructor).

When wanting to learn whether or not Christopher Lee had an enormous occult library, I concluded he probably didn't. However, I learned that Jackie Gleason had a massive library on everything parascientifical and it's researchable online on LibraryThing: www.librarything.com/profile/JackieGleason. The Hooneymooners may be full of surprises.

Lately I've been watching a lot of the pre-"Classic 39" Honeymooners skits that aired on Cavalcade of Stars and The Jackie Gleason Show, mostly because I wanted to see Pert Kelton's take on Alice. While at first she's just this angry shrew female Ralph, that's quickly softened and instead the character develops this kind of ditzy and air-headed personality. Much different from Audrey Meadows smart and sharp-tongued take. I could see why Kelton's Alice would wind up with Ralph, whereas with Meadows you always felt like she could do a lot better.
Art Carney's Ed Norton also feels a little different in those early skits. He feels less like the lovable man-child we all know and more just kinda constantly a little drunk. I know Art Carney had issues with alcohol in his life and I'm wondering if they weren't influencing his initial take on the character.
