Anyone notice how with most tv shows/movies that deal with ghosts, the ghosts have different abilities/limitations. Let's take the two most popular ghost-based tv shows right now, The Ghost and Molly McGee and Ghosts (One's animated, one's live action, but work with me here). Molly McGee's ghosts can be seen by everyone (though they can hide themselves/turn invisible as well), can eat human food, be held by humans. OTOH, there's also a ghost council and they can be sent back to ghost world (or can go back and forth as they please), while the Ghosts on the Ghosts show are bound to the mansion, cannot be seen by anyone but Samantha, cant be touched except by other ghosts. Kind of interesting how the rules can change depending on the material.

I find it more interesting how people IRL treat ghosts. Sure, for some reason your spirit survives natural death and is doomed to roam the earth....but why do their clothes? "Grandpa came to me in his WW1 uniform" Ok.
Also, people who believe in ghosts won't take any explanation. A friend posted a "ghost" video on Facebook. I said, "This is a commercial for a video game in Japan" he said, "But it could be a ghost". I said, "But it isn't". Then he unfriended me.

Kind of interesting how the rules can change depending on the material. Other rules on the latter: they are intangible yet can walk on floors and sit on furniture (my thought is it only works on a vertical plane), cannot eat or drink but can smell, and select of them have special abilities. And apparently they can have sex, but can't finish. Like they say on Ghosts, they need a death manual!

Hollywood cant understand how real things like fire sprinklers work. You expect any consistency for imaginary beings?

Like most supernatural beings, each culture/region tends to have their own version of how that being works. So when you start off with a foundation where the lore can vary wildly from place to place, already you're going to have massive variances.
Then when you look at it from a media standpoint, you have the creatives behind the scenes thinking "What spin can we put on this that'll make it feel unique to our story?". If everyone's used all of the same rules then there'd be no hook.
And then of course you have to consider the medium itself. Like you mentioned, live action versus animation, there are going to be things you can do in one that you can't do in the other that'll also impact the rules you set for your creature.

"Grandpa came to me in his WW1 uniform" Ok. That's why if I ever made a ghost movie all the ghosts would be naked. They would probably all look like the Angry Princess from Thirteen Ghosts. Do I think about this kind of thing too often? Yes, probably.

I'm certain if I thought ghosts were real that grandpa, grandma, mom and my cousin all be making appearances. For some reason, my disbelief in the paranormal has resulted in zero ghosts.

I always figured that if ghosts were real they wouldn't be doing shit like wearing sheets and chasing kids away from abandoned factories. They'd be doing the same sort of vice's they had as humans. Some would be watching TV/Movies all the time. Some would listen to music. Some would be pervs and watch people in the bathroom/bedroom/getting stuck in washing machines as they yell for their step-something to come rescue them.
If I was a ghost I'd probably wander all over the Earth. Go look at the sights I haven't seen. Take a stroll up Mt Everest. Wander into the Vatican Archives. Maybe watch a bunch of NFL games from the stands as I haunt stupid Packer Fans. Walk around Philly without getting flicked off and told that my mother engages in questionable sexual activities. Maybe I'd run into other ghosts and we would have ghost parties or ghost orgies or whatever. Maybe I'd even find a nice ghost lady and settle down and have some ghost babies.
