They have to win but they do not have the roster to win
It is idiocy to force shit when your best two players (Judge and Cole) still have years in their contract
Acquiring Justin Verlander does not make you a winner. Acquiring Ohtani would not have made them a contender. Yankees have a FO and philosophy problem and no matter who you bring in the results will be the same

The Yankees can't sell much because they have next to no sellable assets. The only ones I can think of are Gleyber and Bader, both can be replaced by prospects (Peraza and Pereira), but will they get much back?
I think the Blue Jays low key made a great move today. They add Hicks to the back of the pen, and are getting Chad Green back from the IL soon. They might have one of the best pens in baseball. I don't trust their offense, so they'll need to add to that, but pitching wise they look good.

I don't trust their offense, so they'll need to add to that, but pitching wise they look good. They may as well. Get the youth movement started because the team is far too fundamentally flawed to make any kind of waves in the postseason. Starting pitching was supposed to be a strength. It's Cole and four question marks. The bullpen has faltered as well. The defense is bad, and the outfield defense is extra-trash. The less said about the offense, the better. Also, since Judge is going to be in and out of the lineup while he's on the mend, it really doesn't make much sense to go any further. I really wouldn't be adverse to dealing German, Schmidt, or Cortes. I think Cortes' fairy dust is about finished. Had a hell of a run as a crafty lefty, but I don't think he's that dude to dominate opposing lineups with the stuff he has. Severino could be dealt for a bag of chips and I wouldn't mind at all. Wherever he is next year, you'll likely see him coming out of the bullpen. Would any of those starting pitchers fetch lofty returns? No. But hell, get what you can for them. Heck, maybe their next pitching coach can show them how to pitch effectively. Of course, Cashman is likely going to do something stupid at the deadline, because that's what does. Knowing him, he'll likely swing a trade for one of the Cardinals hitters, a bullpen arm, or go dumpster diving trying to prove his shitty formula works.

The Cardinals are open for business. There better be more to come. Getting rid of Hicks is a bad move. They don't have a lot of hard throwers who can get strikeouts, so they traded their hardest thrower who can get strikeouts. But he's a free agent after this season, so the Cards threw in the towel on getting him back.

They sold high on a guy who maybe would have left in FA anyway. He's always thrown hard as hell, but been hit around. A lot like Rosenthal. Very fast, but pretty flat. The biggest issue we have is guys never have good years back to back here. Gallegos was amazing then kinda meh. Helsley was unhittable, now hittable. Hicks would have probably come back to earth as well had he stayed. Might be the workload.

Hope Bo Bichette is ok, tweaking a knee like that is rarely a simple injury. Jays fans praying for a sprain.

Because of last year's success, they have a tough schedule this season that I don't think their ready for just yet. They're going to get an unfair wrap of regression due to an expected worse record, even if they play well.

At least if the Giants do regress they just have to hope the Jets implode cause we all know that's all the media will talk about is if the Jets still suck

So cool for Farhan to get the corpse of AJ Pollack and another shitty AAAA level infielder from the Mariners.
I swear, Farhan is actively the most boring GM ever. He does things that are exactly fine and Kapler works magic with it.

Really need The Phillies to pull the trigger today, I feel like they need to make multiple moves, need at least one bat if not two to change up this offense, and then maybe consider pitching.
They've been linked to a few guys, definitely need to get this done in a currently crowded Wildcard.

The Red Sox picked just about the worst possible time for a three-game losing streak. They now sit at 56-50, 2.5 games behind Toronto for the third Wild Card, with the Angels, Yankees, and Mariners nipping at their heels. They've given Chaim Bloom all the justification he needs to stand pat, make only a minor transaction, or sell at the deadline.
Sadly, I fully expect an uneventful trade deadline for Boston. The team has given it everything they have through the first four months of the season, somehow contending for the playoffs despite using an opener two out of every five days, relying on 24-year-old Brayan Bello to be the staff ace, significant injuries to their best pitcher (Chris Sale), starting second baseman (Trevor Story), two young starting pitchers (Garrett Whitlock and Tanner Houck), and starting centerfielder (Adam Duvall).
Rafael Devers said it best when he told The Boston Globe, "We've been killing ourselves to be in the position we are in now." They should be rewarded with some transactions that signal the front office and ownership is willing to invest in this year's club and see if they can make a little noise in October.
Instead, I think Bloom and ownership will look at this three-game skid, see that every team above them in the standings has made significant acquisitions, and say to themselves, "It's not our year, it's not worth it."

I'm telling you, Verlander + Orioles = World Series, Super Bowl, and World Cup.
