also the question remains... Isn't this right time for the Mets to call up Ronny Mauricio?

Acuna is a good prospect, but not a great prospect. They must have just wanted out of that contract.

Sorry to bombard the thread, but I get H-Mark's stance with my interest actually increasing now that they are selling. It just brings up so many questions.
As the Mets look to get younger is Buck as good as gone, and does Beltran get his second chance like Cora did? Do they stick to getting younger and don't make a huge splash in free-agency? Will they or won't they lock up Alonso?

This is best course of action for Mets to compete in longer term with this soft reset Trade McNeil, Carrasco and JV if they can and they will clear some money and at get back some talent Carassco won't get you anything. Getting pounded by the Nats now. He's done.

Deal's not official yet, but it's likely going to happen. That said, Jesus, my interest in the Mets was at rock bottom this year (and has been at that level way, way too frequently since 2017), but go ahead and call me crazy, the team actually doing deals for the future in the wake of this disappointing season has me more interested in watching them than I've been at any point since, I don't know, mid-May or something. In all seriousness, I get that Cohen came in saying he wanted to get this team a title in 3-5 years once he bought the team, but holy shit you can't comprehend how badly things were run under the Wilpons; all the investments he's made in the organization since buying it outright are going to take time to bear full fruit. The team trading for big potential young prospects and having a bunch of money to reinvest in the big league roster for next year actually has me more interested than I've been in awhile (I was one of the assholes watching them last September going "oh no, no, no, they're gonna fall apart, oh shit oh shit oh SHIT!" in real time). Basically, if they save any money on this deal I'm hoping they look into getting Yoshinobu Yamamoto for next year once he posts from Japan, get Diaz back healthy, fix this shit up. The advantage they have with Scherzer (and Verlander, if they get an offer they can't refuse) is that there's added term on those contracts, albeit in the form of a player option for Scherzer, though I'm sure any trade would involve hammering out how to deal with that. Like, the Mets aren't going to tear the whole team down at this stage; there's an argument they should've done that the moment Cohen became full owner, but so long as they've got Alonso/McNeil/Lindor/Nimmo/Diaz/Senga/etc. they're not going to just strip things down to the floorboards. As long as that's the case, they do have the leverage of "Well, y'know, we don't have to trade Scherzer or Verlander, we intend to at least compete next year, so if you want them you've gotta really show us..." Do we have to keep Mcneil? He doesn't drive in runs even when his average isn't doody. I don't think there's any way you deal McNeil right now; he's having a down year, why trade him while his value is down? He's a great presence near the top of the lineup and I don't really see why he shouldn't bounce back next year. Same "go for any offer you can't refuse" caveat applies, but I'd rather keep him. I'm also cool with holding onto Verlander, but again, if the Dodgers come along and offer a top prospect or two I'd at least hear them out. It'd make building the rotation for next year tougher, for sure, but it's Cohen's money, not mine, so see what comes of it. On the Scherzer deal it does kind of suck that it seemed like they were going to get more than one prospect but now it seems like a one-for-one deal...but lil' Acuna is a damn good prospect who jumps immediately to #1 or #2 in the Mets' rankings and is top 50 for all MLB, someone who might even be able to make the jump to the bigs by midseason next year, so that combined with getting out from over $20 million of what Scherzer's still owed is a solid, solid deal. Prospects are obviously never a guarantee, but in the last couple of days the Mets have now added two prospects who are immediately top 5 in their system, and you can argue the third guy they got isn't far off from that, too. It'd be great if they all make it to the bigs and contribute to the big league club, but even if that doesn't happen they could still be used in future trades; basically, it's all good process in what quickly became a lost season, so I'm glad to get this silver lining in a dark cloud of a year.

Verlander is not going anywhere. The Mets were going to trade one of those aces, not both of them, they still have to field a team for next year.

Phillies need to make trades, they need to completely restructure this lineup
Rob Thompson is losing the room and he's losing it fast, Castellanos is actually hitting worse than Turner so you put him at 2?? Solved nothing, actively cost us a game tonight
I'm sick of this shit.

Cubs win 8 in a row, I drove by Wrigley Field last night after a concert and noticed the office people were there at around 11ish last night. Time for the Cubs to buy at the deadline! 3 and a half back in the division!! I do not get the "Cubs wont win, trade guys like Stroman and Bellinger so you get something back!" Absolutely not! Im not saying they are winning the world series, but you do not want to do something to f*** up that vibe in the clubhouse, and you dont want to wave the white flag being only 3 and a half out, and you also want to show potential free agents that here in Chicago, we are on the way up. The sale time is over, we are buyers now.

I said he'd wind up with the Dodgers, but I'm changing that. The Mets would trade him, but he has to wave his no-trade, and apparently Kate Upton loves New York. Happy wife, happy life. So the only team he might wave it for is the Yankees. I think he stays a Met.

We need hitting, hitting, hitting, you hear that Cashman you bum. Get off your ass and do something.

I'd rather not Yankees continue to waste more young assets on 2 month rentals
Either trade people like Torres and get something back (you already have a replacement in Peraza) or don't do anything

I am tired of this prospect hugging, Babe Ruth could be available and Cashman be like nope I am not giving up Volpe.

Superstar is not going to fix this team and make them a championship contender tomorrow. All Yankees do is trade their prospects, people see what they want to see
Yankees have made their dynasties on homegrown talent mixed with acquisitions

I don't think the Yankees have much in tradable assets. Too many overpaid, underperforming players and they're not magically going to go from "floating around the W3 spot" to "championship contenders" without giving away the entire farm system. And that's assuming there's anyone who actually fills a need for the Yankees available to trade like a defensively solid left fielder.
I'd rather they just ride it out without any major splash moves and then take chances in free agency. Though as both the Padres and Mets have shown: you have to spend your money wisely or you're just a very expensive lemon.
Most significant change that should be made is in the Yanks' front office and coaching staff to get away from this "analytics at any cost" mentality that forces too many players to try to fit a square peg into a round hole. I can't think of any better indictment of how this fails the players and the team better than all these number crunchers and math nerds who've never played a single game of baseball getting paid god knows how much being unable to get Anthony Volpe to be a better hitter, but another prospect and the AA minor league staff figured it out almost immediately.

On second thought maybe the Yankees could use a front end starter. Verlander wants to stay in New York, he is welcome in the Bronx in my book, let bygones be bygones, go get him Cashman stop being so cheep.
I rather Sevy show his true colors tonight than after the deadline, the last two starts were a fluke, he is a loser that needs to get out of town, Marlins if you want Torres you can have him, you have to take Sevy off our hands.

Two walk-off wins in a row for the Giants. Managing to win even with the lineup in an entire struggle up and down.
