Jose Altuve appears to have broken his thumb tonight in the WBC. I can see this shit going the way of the World Cup of Hockey. Which sucks, cuz it's fun viewing. But owners are gonna put the kibosh on this fast.

A few MLB owners might want to pull out but the MLBPA would probably raise holy hell about it.
That said, the WBC would still happen even without MLB's support since it's sponsored by an international organization as well as several other professional leagues around the world. It just means they won't have MLB players. All that said, it'd be foolish for MLB not to have at least a token sponsorship of the tournament since it's becoming massive internationally. Like the Taiwan vs. Japan game got 50 million viewers worldwide. That's insane.

Yea, at this point it will be hard to backtrack otherwise it will just be like the Olympics which MLB American players hardly even get up for (Def don't get none of the best) You need the WBC for global growth of the game

Yeah I don't think anything is going to change with the WBC and MLB, especially after this one. They are getting great numbers globally for this, and even the attendance has been very good. As mentioned MLB needs this to grow the sport globally. The more popular it is in other countries, the more potential revenue the league can tap into, so I don't think the owners are going to give any grief about it.

I think November isn't a bad idea but I could see a lot more players not playing due to wanting a break and other factors Could be a few problems. Pitchers wear and tear will be a big one. Assuming a pitcher hit their limit, no way teams are allowing them to do that and risk injury after a long year. Some players are going to want a break after the season. Players will also probably be weary if they are a FA and not wanting to mess up anything with an injury At least in February you are handling a few things as far as pitchers ramping their arms up for the season and batters getting the same at bats they would get in spring training

Altuve breaking his thumb is pretty bad news for Houston
It shouldn't be season ending but Harper had a similar injury and he was out like three months

Yeah, something like 44% of Japanese TV sets were tuned in for their most recent game; +60% of Puerto Rican televisions were on for their last game.

Let's put it this way: the Premier 12 tournament (which is another international national team tournament) happens in November. MLB just said: no 40-man roster players. Which means most non Cuba, Japan and Korea teams are gutted if they wanted to go for the title. So yeah, I don't think moving to November would be a good idea at all. If anything, owners could seek some sort of compensation if the injury is from something that really happened because of WBC training/games (so we're excluding Edwin Diaz like cases here), which is something similar to what happens in international football/soccer.

USA/Japan for the WBC title tomorrow night. And Ohtani is gonna be the starting pitcher most likely. Must see TV.

What a finish to the Mexico/Japan game. WBC games have been great this year.
Ohtani vs Trout in the Finals. At least they will play one big game while being members of the Angels.

Even as someone who is half Mexican, it was great to see Japan's fundamentals win out over Arozarena showboating. So many times in the playoffs recently, I've complained about teams in HUGE situations not being able to pull off simple bunts and sac flys. The basics of scoring in tight games. The reason why it was a 1-run game is because Japan very easily pulled off both in the 8th. Textbook stuff. Mexico will be back tho.
