Fire Aaron Boone now, how do you lose to this crappy team? His crappy managing cost us again, he has to go. What pictures does he have on Hal, that is still employed. Volpe not bunting in the 10th, I can't let that go and more importantly, you lose a game and you never use your best relievers, we have an off day tomorrow, just punt another game away because Holmes, or King, or ever else can't pitch back to back days, give me a break. They're in such a weird position. It feels like they want to be out of a rebuild and want to be showing signs of life, but the guys they have right now in terms of young promising stars aren't enough and then the rest of the depth also isn't good and idk how much they can even trade away at this point. 

Some injuries certainly haven't helped, but they currently feel like they're about to have a rebuild within a rebuild, and some guys like Perez and Greinke are going out on a whimper of a team and I doubt they'll be traded.

Just a pretty bad situation to be in, but I guess they'll get another high draft pick...?

Said it before but the Cards shouldn’t have let Skip go to Miami. Last time the Cards had a season this bad Joe Torre got canned mid season. This new coaching staff isn’t getting the job done and at this rate I doubt they survive to mid season. Bringing Shildt back would honestly be an upgrade at this point.

Can MLB take away the AL Central playoff spot? Cause hot damn is that whole division just a 2 pack of ass. Like I'm serious The Twins are gonna get a free postseason appearance while a more deserving AL team (probably Angeles) are gonna be sitting at home watching October baseball while the twins get swept by Tampa.

Yeah, but it’s not even worth responding too. Even though the Mets are bad, in professional baseball the superior team rarely beats the inferior team 100 percent of the time. But this thread and logic never mix.

Also, as a Padres fan, let me just say that it's rich hearing Yankees fans whine about how "awful" their "Playing 9 games over .500 team" is. Like, ya'll don't know struggle, come to San Diego this season, see what's up.

Skip would have been good. I still feel like Shildt got a raw deal. I don't think we can blame Marmol for what Mo has put together. We overachieved last year. Our whole gameplan is to overachieve, and that is harder with Yadi not there to both handle the staff and keep runners honest. DeWitt doesn't want to spend, even when our tops guys are minimal financial commitments (Arenado and Goldschmidt compared to open market-sized money/term), when the guys who were once thought to be our future like Flaherty and O'Neill are only on arbitration. And we still cheaped out in FA and took Contreras, who is obviously not a difference-maker.

Which isn't even the biggest issue we face. Despite the loss of Yadi, the lack of pitching, the spending ceiling, the managing leaving something to be desired, I think we're terrible at player development. The minors develop guys and then we use this wealth of depth to undercut all of our talent. We never stick with guys, especially our outfield which has been a mess for a while. We bring up some flavor of the month who is seemingly ready after long and steady development in the minors, and then when they go on a cold streak they lose their playing time and go back to the scrap heap. It happened with Gorman last year. It happened with Yepez. It happened with Bader. It happened with Carlson. It's happening with Burleson and Nootbaar. Walker had a cold streak and it was right back to the minors. We have to give O'Neill ABs to up his trade value despite no one wanting him to have a future with the club, so he's taking valuable playing time from others. Now obviously Walker is the future of the Cardinals, but for everyone else you're the future for 8 weeks and then it's to the back of the line. It's so frustrating to see the minors churn out promising player after promising player, only to watch the big league club bumblef*** it all with their spin-the-wheel lineups. If you're not allowed to work through slumps, how will you ever grow confidence and get better?
