Speaking of making money, I think Road Dogg's best-selling merch was a South Park T-shirt.

I thought it was amusing that during the Gunn Club match on Dynamite, one of them tried to do the shake rattle and roll to one of FTR, and it was immediately countered into a sharpshooter.
Somehow I don’t think that that was a coincidence.

The best thing I learned from this whole fiasco is that Simpsons Wrestling Memes aren't above being ableist, so thanks Doggy

I won’t undercut Road Dogg’s peak of his wrestling career too much. Sure, he got a bit of luck given the timeframe he had it, but you couldn’t send any old body to do his schtick and expect the same results. Dude had the charisma and delivery as part of the overall DX/New Age Outlaws package (heh heh… “package”) to get it over.
But he was very much of his time. Bret Hart at his peak worked out in 1986, 1996 and would probably work out in 2006 and 2016 if he were a younger and healthier man in those times. Dude’s timeless.

Road Dogg pifff more like Road Dumbass.
I'm not surprised, as time and time again he has proven himself to be a total f***wit whenever he opens his mouth.

If Road Dogg had been put in Bret Hart's position there wouldn't be any money there. All he had to do was come out and cut a short silly catchphrase promo while Bret had to go out there and do promos that hyped up main event matches to actually draw people in and sell tickets and PPV buys. Nobody would ever put Road Dogg in that position, not even for some one-off title match type of deal. He was a solid warmup act and that was it.

You can argue that Road Dogg as a character *could* be more memorable, but I'd disagree.
There is a reason why Bret was a main event guy, and yes, it was because he could deliver good matches. It's the same reason a guy like Bob Backlund was the top guy while Jesse Ventura was at best a contender.
At the end of the day, wrestling sells wrestling. Anything that Road Dogg was peddling in 1998 would eventually fall out of style, whereas anything that Bret was capable of would continue with others at the helm and continue to flourish.

Bret Hart got to be a multi-time world champion on his own merits.
Road Dogg only got big riding his brother's coattails... Then Billy Gunn's, and finally HHH's.

I've never listened to Freddie's podcast, it may just be him shitting all over various things. But he isn't responsible for that site writing an article based on three setences he said. He just tells fun stories tbh.
