I love a good comeback story, but usually when a wrestler makes a comeback, it fails to live up to the last big run. Billy Graham was a big one, I was hoping for a huge comeback run in '86 but was snakebit with injuries. Edge's comeback has also been snakebit with injuries. Punk's comeback was great for a while but also snakebit (plus muffins). Can you think of times a wrestler disappeared for a while, came back and his comeback run was more memorable than his first run? The only one that comes to mind is Backlund, who completely disappeared for years and then had his crazy Mr. Backlund run which seems to be remembered more fondly than his 5 year run as the All-American Boy WWWF champ.

HBK’s 2nd run from 02-10 comes to mind. We were blessed to get that run honestly.

Psycho Sid was far better than Sid Justice.
2006-2009 Jeff Hardy was a mega star. Makes me wonder how did he become (mostly) such an afterthought at the end of his last run

We were blessed to get that run honestly. came in to post this. he was every bit as good a wrestler as he was before his hiatus, but with a change in attitude that turned him into THE respected elder statesman of wrestling. he had the best match of the night every time he had one.

One of the greatest wrestling redemption stories. He really turned his life around without losing a step in the ring.

Most of the guys who had runs in the WWWF, went away and then came back for the Rock n' Wrestling era. Hulk Hogan obviously being the biggest name, but also Roddy Piper, Ted DiBiase, Nikolai Volkoff, The Iron Sheik, Tito Santana, Greg Valentine... the list goes on.

Others may disagree but I would suggest Kamala. His first run in WWF saw him working with Hogan, but I think is generally overlooked as he never got on PPV. His return in '92 with a major feud with Undertaker and plenty of TV matches probably eclipses the first run and is just more memorable.

Maybe not eclipses the first run but the second coming of Batista/Evolution was top notch with their battles with the Shield and Batista just generally being hilarious with such hits as Boo-tista and Blue-tista.

Dustin Rhodes was a generic white meat babyface in his first Fed run. His second run as Goldust was one of the most groundbreaking wrestling characters ever, especially by 1995 standards.

Different companies, but Meng's run was better than Haku's.

Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley's second stints in WWE are going a hell of a lot better than the first. Granted it took both awhile to get there, but Drew in particular went from a boring "chosen one" heel in his first run to one of the most natural and likable face WWE Champions in quite some time.

Eddie Guerrero comes to mind. He was let go by the WWF in November 2001 for drunk driving, came back later that spring and didn't miss a beat from his previous run. Won the IC and US titles along the way, was an integral part of the Smackdown brand, and even slayed the beast by winning the WWE championship from Brock Lesnar. He was so beloved that when they tried to turn him into a baddie, the fans rejected it and turned back face like a month later.
Too bad he passed away(which is 17 years ago today), because the future Hall of Famer definitely would've brought us more memorable moments. So yeah, my pick more than qualifies.

From magazines and books and had his LJN doll, but never saw him until that run, except maybe once I saw a match when he was wherever he was in between. It’s hard to top a run with Hogan though. Plus Kamala has gone on record on how little he was paid for his Taker feud as well. You’re right, but I think the original run is probably still best for his bank account.

Don't know if this counts, but I feel like Finlay's comeback in WWE was better than his WCW run, and I thought it'd flop.
