This is the year all of Silicon Valley has finally turned heel, but it’s still shocking to me how quickly Musk has gone from a Hollywood Hogan-style midlife crisis villain to wannabe cackling evil Sith Lord. It feels like so many people are just straight up deciding to embrace the Dark Side that it’s bewildering to remember that it was less than a decade ago when they were being compared to Tony Stark.

It feels like so many people are just straight up deciding to embrace the Dark Side that it’s bewildering to remember that it was less than a decade ago when they were being compared to Tony Stark. That’s what happens when egomaniacal tech bros who expect infinite adulation and hero worship start to have their personalities and behaviors more critically examined, and the resulting evidence suggests that actually upon closer inspection, they are not even close to as intelligent or philosophically wise as the initial hagiographies that they were greeted with would suggest, and in fact, suggest that actually they kind of suck when you look at the complete picture. Tech people are particularly primed for this kind of thinking, since the fact that they know a lot about one complicated, high-demand skill, and socially important thing often gets them the false idea that they must know every complicated, socially important thing. I’ve seen some examples in my personal life of people who go off the deep end when you have someone who really, deeply internalizes “smart” or “enlightened” as being their personal identity (rather than, you know, things that are indicated by you actually demonstrating them in your actual behavior) start getting their deficiencies and blind spots increasingly noticeable and pointed out to them even constructively. Some people really lose it when the evidence starts objectively demonstrating that they might not really be Mommy’s Special Boy. |

Biden made his big announcement on twitter, not the first time historic, earth-shattering moments that can massively influence the stock markets and/or foreign policies of important nations around the world have been made on the site and successive generations of ownership still can't work out an effective way to monetize it. I opened the Twitter app for the first time in months. I thought he was going to get rid of the bots. Under his own tweet, there are hundreds of bot replies before you see someone real.
I think Twitter had a natural lifespan, but Musk seems to have sped it up drastically. It's nearly unusable
