It's always kind of darkly hilarious how so many of the loudest "this is what MOVES THE NEEDLE!" takes from the wrestling world come from people who ran WCW into the grave and nearly did the same to TNA. But we'd better listen to them!
I also wouldn't be concerned that Takeshita's going to be lost in the shuffle; like most of the other younger guys in AEW I'm sure he won't be ticketed to the main event right away (took MJF three years, after all), but just go back and see how Khan was featuring him during his initial excursion, it's clear they know they have something with this guy. I could see some stretches where he's not seen as often because he's got a tour in Japan with DDT on the near horizon, but if how they booked him before while he was just visiting is prologue, him being officially signed now means the sky's the limit.

Mark Madden is a f***ing moron. With his takes, his "DD-Me" BS and usual nonsense. He was one of the reasons why WCW was a chore to watch during the final years. And it's ironic that he says this when the company that employed him introduced alot of foreign talent that connected to fans including the current ROH World Champion and one Smackdown's top guys. A Chris Jericho who didn't spend the time he did in Mexico and Japan would be an objectively worse Chris Jericho and super not the all-timer he ended up as. Dumbasses like Madden and Russo who fell into the business without knowing it let their close-mindedness shine through in big ways on this kind of topic. Absolutely no surprise he's specifically complaining about a Mexican and a Japanese wrestler by name as the ones who won't draw. It's the same shit every time with them because they can't fathom that the audience wants to see variety and wants to see the best regardless of where they're from. I was going to mostly ignore Madden because he doesn't deserve my attention, but yeah, it's not the Monday Night Wars anymore, and the days of Hogan and HHH cutting 20-30 minute promos are over. Being unable to monologue for 2-3 segments isn't even remotely the detriment that it used to be 20+ years ago.

And let's be completely real here, just full all-cards-on-the-table-honesty: Triple H couldn't cut 20-30 minute promos either. That is just adamantly not a skill set that should be expected of anybody. I will happily take a guy like RUSH cutting short promos in his second language but conveying personality and presence with his promos any day.

Didn't newz says a few months back that HHHunter really wanted this guy? I'm sure he did but Takeshita wasn't interested.

Really liked what I saw of Takeshita in AEW, great look and great work. Bandido has something too though I do wish he'd change that finish that has people having to bend down holding the ropes in a way they never would otherwise.

Didn't newz says a few months back that HHHunter really wanted this guy? It'd be weird as hell if he wasn't interested. Relatively tall, good-looking fit guys, especially ones from a region a promoter wants to make headway into, are probably going to be just about any promoter's radar.

Who WOULDN'T want to sign him (aside from Mark Madden)? I'm reminded of, in the past at some other forum, someone saying WWE wouldn't want SANADA or Okada even if they were available, as if they didn't have a lot of points in their favor, being handsome wrestlers with skill and size.

Takeshita is a super talented guy with all the potential in the world to be a star for AEW, so happy he got signed.
Also, I feel like a lot/most of the "needle mover" stuff is kind of silly. Like, don't ignore your analytics or anything, but focusing more on just creating entertaining content and giving your fans a reason to give a shit about your talent seems like a better way to be than purely focusing on the numbers. Also, f*** Mark Madden.

Maybe it's just that he's younger, but I don't really think of him as being a lot like Okada. Takeshita strikes me more high-energy, whereas Okada kinda has more of that whole "steady influence" statesman thing. Maybe Takeshita becomes more like that as he gets older and becomes more of a veteran, though.

Didn't newz says a few months back that HHHunter really wanted this guy? I believe it was more Dave going "WWE is looking for the next big Japanese talent to make the jump and Takeshita is tall, talented and very likable"

If I had to compare Takeshita to one of the past puro greats, I'd probably say early 90's Kobashi, because he's got a combination of fire, athleticism, good looks, and (relative) height that makes him stand out. There's definitely a phase past that to get to 00's Kobashi.
