Richie Steamboat - My personal biggest "What if?" in wrestling. Kid was a f***ing natural and way more handsome than Ricky. Still watch his match with Seth Rollins in FCW every couple years and admire his smoothness.
Rene Dupree - I remember the rumors of the higher ups loving him and I was right there with them. Had a great look and while unpolished, I felt he had 'the feel' of things and knowing what was needed to get over between the tinkler and bringing Fifi to the ring. Really liked his feud with Cena and his team with Kenzo Suzuki. Even after the wellness violations they wanted to keep him but he left on his own accord after the Benoit tragedy caused him to relapse. I admire someone who can admit when he needs to step back. Least he's carved out a long solid career on the indies and various promotions. I've seen a few of his podcasts editions and he's an enjoyable guy.
Ashley Massaro/Kaitlyn - Both of whom I wish could've started a few years later when NXT came under HHH/Dusty's control. Ashley never got the training she should've but was by all accounts a sweetheart and went 100% in for everything she was given. Had she started later she might've avoided the alleged abuses she went through. Kaitlyn also was a great sport and even though she won the title it never felt like they cared much for her. Don't blame her for leaving for her family but you can tell she cared about the business.

The Ashley story is just so heartbreaking he had to go through that.

My thought reading the thread title was Richie Steamboat.

Rene Dupree- Had a great theme song and the french tickler, but i have the feeling eventually the french phenom gimmick would have died, and he'd just be plain Rene Dupree, like he is now in the indies.
Tom Maghee- I know he gets crapped on, but the guy was Ultimate Warrior mixed with Ricochet. I dont know of any true body builders who were as acrobatic as him in wrestling at the time. Should have had more chances

Hakushi. He was around for a minute, but that’s one of my favorite gimmicks of all time and could have been better in the right time and place.

To add to my list
Monty Brown- although he retired due to his sister passing or something along those lines.
Sonny "Dont look at my ass" Siaki- had a decent run in TNA then went to the bald head and trunks look, his career seemed downhill from there, then retired after giving his brother one of his kidneys.
Elix Skipper- had a decent moveset (minus play of the day/O zone/Overdrive)
Lash Leroux-after WCW folded, he made 1 TNA appearance and then vanished

Should have had more chances Only problem with Tom is that as an entertainer, he was WORSE than the Warrior and Ricochet to the point where they had him be a heel. At least with Warrior, yeah he was a horrible wrestler and maybe worst of the three, but he entertained well enough to connect with fans positively.

Mike Dibiase-Out of Ted's three boys Mike was the best in ring. But his issues and that stand off got him jail time instead of ring time.
Brett Dibiase-While not as good in ring as Mike,on the mic Brett was the one that was so like their dad in that way. But again issues, and the whole stealing piles of money from the MS SNAP program.

Muhammad Hassan - Had the makings of being one of the best heels in the business at the time, but then WWE f***ed it all up with the terrorist crap. Should've kept him as being the disgruntled citizen tired of being unjustly treated. A real throwback to how Bret justified his heelish behavior in 1997.
Rene Dupree for the reasons already mentioned earlier in the thread. WWE was clearly high on him early on, as evident of him winning the World Tag Team championship at such a young age.
Hakushi - One of the very few standouts at a time when occupational gimmicks were ubiquitous. It's a real shame that he didn't get further than he did as he had some very entertaining matches with Bret Hart.

Agreed that the original stuff behind the Hassan gimmick was tremendous. Devon "Crowbar" Storm. Yeah, he was in WCW for a few years and has bounced around in the indys on and off ever since, but I thought he was a really solid hand who could have found a place somewhere. I just think his timing was off.

Sean O'Haire - Those devil's advocate promos were brilliant. It could have been an amazing character.

Sean O'Haire - Those devil's advocate promos were brilliant. It could have been an amazing character. Agree. But from what people said he was great on pre tapes but sucked in front of a live crowd. Also they didnt seem to have a good idea on how that character translated into a wrestling character. What about Matt Cappotelli. Nothing but bad luck there. But from what people said he could have been a real big deal.

WWE was dangerously close to doing something very different and relevant with Muhammad Hassan, but they just couldn't get out of their own way.

Mike Modest. The “Beyond The Mat” documentary made me want to see more of his work. He could have had a run similar to Pete Dunn if he was around in the NXT era.

Sean O'Haire - Those devil's advocate promos were brilliant. It could have been an amazing character. He could've been a main eventer. Then they had him carry a Spider around and team with Roddy Piper for no reason whatsoever. All they had to do was have him be a controversial cult leader type who convinces other people to do bad things. I always said I'd love to see a wrestling gimmick similar to Lucifer Morningstar. Sean O'Haire is probably the closest we've had. I still think it could work if the wrestler was charismatic enough.
