From some of the indy guys I've hung out with or spoken too some of them were around Punks heyday and most usually have a story of him being a petulant manchild. Theres a clear pattern here. So Im not surprised this happened, I'm really disappointed it did, I wouldve thought time matured him but he still has some growing up to do. Punk always acted like this and because WWE was gonna WWE we gave him the benefit of the doubt.

Like, the first promo he cut in the company was how he wanted to be a part of the company, help it grow and settle old scores as well as face young talent. If a year later, you cut a promo burying the management, the company itself and punch one of the reasons the company exists in the face, you shouldn't expect those same young talent or older vets you wanted to help to see that as particularly helpful. He took a massive shit on AEW, can’t deny that. But he has done a lot of good for the whole pro wrestling industry in general. The Pipebomb he cut almost 12 years ago made waves in pro wrestling. If it weren’t for Punk, guys like Bryan, KO, Sami ect wouldn’t be as successful today. Hell you can say AEW in general is an influence of Punk. Granted Punk more than likley did the Pipebomb and all that for his own selfish reasons, but he did change a whole industry for the positive, which is why I think he gets too much hate I think Kevin Owens would argue his success in pro wrestling is more in spite of Punk than because of him.

Yeah, Owens is not a fan of CM Punk.At all. In fact doesn't he have heat with Reigns, Styles and Rollins too? Might have issues going to WWE when most of their ME scene dislikes you, Punk.

Theres stories of him throwing his weight around when it wasn't warranted. Hes basically David Starr before speaking out and being a pro-union guy. (Starr was seen as a massive bellend who throws his weight around and burns bridges with promotions due to his toxic personality)

Like, the storyline was leading to him basically being revealed as a piece of shit and not actually believing anything he said until…he actually was revealed to be a piece of shit (in more ways than one) and not actually believing anything he said.

I don’t think CM Punk was revolutionary but he was one of the first to bring the “breaking the 4th wall” into the mainstream successfully.
That style has been done well before Punk. ECW used breaking the 4th wall quite often. Steve Austin’s entire ECW run was basically one big “pipe bomb” directed at WCW. Foley’s anti hardcore ECW character had plenty of elements as well, ditto with Shane Douglas.
Russo tried it in WCW but failed miserably. And failed to connect. Punk broke that proverbial fourth wall masterfully in a way casual fans could relate to while still giving a few winks to the hardcore fans.
He has given a lot to the industry and his impact should be celebrated. I’d argue his feud with Raven helped get eyes on early ROH.
Compare him with Jericho. Jericho in many ways went against the grain just as Punk did. And has etched his mark and legacy. Both will be remembered.
Both have personal flaws (we all do to varying degrees).
I do not agree with many of Jericho’s personal views. However he keeps that stuff in house for the most part. When it comes to any promotion he works for you can tell he wishes to help them. When he has issues he doesn’t publicly blast them, he settles it behind the scenes. He’s had issues with people in the past, some of them even turned physical but he never publicly tried to blast them. With Goldberg, which was publicized, he’s made up and speaks well about him and had him in his podcast.
That’s how it should be. Settle behind the scenes and move on.
With Punk he took his grievances public. Tried to embarrass Colt Cabana who has said nothing public about the situation for years.
Then he publicly blasted the Elite and actively tried to destroy their and AEWs reputation.
Young Bucks have always been a divisive team because of their style but the amount of hate they are getting since Punk’s tirade is much greater. He’s done significant damage to them and Kenny.
I’ve always been a Punk fan but to see him try and destroy the career and legacy of the Elite, who I am huge fans of, to me crosses a line that should never be crossed. This is the only place I post about wrestling since then because of the hate they are getting elsewhere since then. Literally impossible to discuss things without getting trashed by Punk Stans.
I honestly wish Punk had never returned. The world of pro wrestling would be a better place.
