Regal rejected MJF before. But this time MJF was bigger than him, so he got to return the favor.
He got what he needed from him and took out the trash.
It was done perfectly.
For those saying "Nobody got the rub" - MJF did. He got his character developed more. We always knew he was a piece of shit but now he's a piece of shit who absolutely can't be trusted. And it puts over how petty he is over being snubbed by WWE before.
To sum it up, Regal was a f***ing idiot lol. And its kinda crazy that Bryan is defending him. I mean, surely he knows Regal could do the same thing to him? But they will get Regal sympathy cause they kept putting over how one attack could kill him, etc.

I think the Regal motivation kind of just makes the whole thing dumber? Like I guess I get the concept of wanting to elevate MJF because he sees something in him but deciding he wants to throw away a sure thing to puff up someone who needs his help who has thoroughly demonstrated he can hold onto grudges for insanely long periods of time and is incredibly untrustworthy just makes Regal look like a total dumbass. Really the whole thing just feels like they badly overthought a desperate attempt to keep MJF getting booed when people don't want to anymore because plans can never change. "You claim to be the smartest man in the room, but you made a deal with the devil himself" It was clear Regal was taking a longshot on MJF, but given how much time he seemed to invest into MJF from the early PC days, everyone else it seemed to figure would be fine no matter what, but he didn't want MJF to fall through the cracks, so he gave him the thing that he felt would make MJF complete. The issue is, MJF just doesn't care about anyone but himself. MJF getting heat is also imo not a bad thing, it shows he's a good heel to get the crowds to continue to boo him after all this time.

I also wanna point out how well Taz sold it. He went from dickriding MJF to thinking he'd gone way too far.

I understand the motivation. I don’t think that transition to any type of rub, or extra heat. The fans didn’t sympathize with Reba at all. He had just screwed the root babyface in the company. Who now can never get his rightful revenge. I think it was similar to when Jim Neidhart joined DX, only for them to lowblow him just to stick it to Bret. You weren't supposed to feel bad for Jim, it just added an extra layer of dickery to DX. I gotta think if that angle played out because Jim Neidhart was the catalyst to DX reaching the top to close a pay per view like Survivor Series, it would have been received as total crap.

Hopefully Regal leaving also sends Bryan off into the deep end. Dude was entertaining AF when his dreams told him to kick AJ Styles in the dick in 2019 and that heel run was one of the best of his career.

Dude was entertaining AF when his dreams told him to kick AJ Styles in the dick in 2019 and that heel run was one of the best of his career. I find that run so odd to look back on because I do genuinely think that the first two months or so of that heel run with him constantly going for the cheap heat of, um, caring about the environment was absolutely unwatchable trash and his AJ Rumble match was genuinely awful, but then right around the time the Kofi feud started to kick up they toned down that aspects and found a groove that really worked with him, especially in conjunction with his surprising amount of chemistry with Rowan, and he was one of the best things going for awhile... and then they just super-abruptly turned him face out of nowhere as Roman's little buddy and he basically spent the entire rest of his time in WWE getting his ass kicked every week. Like, it's such a weird thing of I hated how it started, hated how it ended, but the middle part was excellent. Shame I think Bryan's too busted of a character at this point to return to how he was in the Hangman feud. That was some genuinely great stuff but at this point he's choked so many times and so firmly positioned as someone just there to put people over that it'd be impossible to take it seriously if he went on an asshole tear like that again.

MJF turning on him was nothing more than an act of pettiness because he snubbed him in WWE. He even quoted his words back to him. I understand the motivation. I don’t think that transition to any type of rub, or extra heat. The fans didn’t sympathize with Regal at all. He had just screwed the root babyface in the company. Who now can never get his rightful revenge. It was to put sympathy on Bryan, who had literally begged and pleaded on his knees for Mox to not harm Regal last week, and while Mox let Regal go unscathed it was all for nought as MJF still brutally attacked him.

The segment wasn't supposed to be inherently transactional; he did a bad thing not because it put sympathy onto his victim, but because he had to go down even lower. Because it is a new depth of depravity and villainy for MJF. Hurting Regal isn't necessarily about making people sympathetic toward Regal; there's other people connected to Regal who can find motivation here, but the mere acto f betraying and hitting Regal doesn't need to get him something.

I still remember my reaction to the Full Gear main event as I was leaving the arena: "Oh, MJF isn't the Devil... Regal is." Last night was MJF saying "No, dumbass, @#$% that old man, I'm the prince of darkness, now."

He was just kidding, it was a prank. A jape. Moxley should have known this.

Bryan: the ents for me Claudio: jolly green giant always had a look Wheeler: tyson kidd but only for the knowledge Mox again: but maybe it's more like i wanna *be* joe camel? Regal staring out the window thinking about wearing a backwards baseball cap on NXT and how peaceful it'd be:

I also think now that MJF’s title run might not last as long as I thought nor do I think it should.
Why? Because he has alienated everybody. The Pinnacle, The Firm, Regal. Nobody is helping him now unless he reaches into his chequebook again I guess? He’s still cool with Andrade’s group right?

Moxley has turned on so many women, that Regal thought he would give him a taste of his own medicine.

As much as I like the idea of Bryan taking on MJF and wanting revenge for his mentor, Bryan has lost almost all of his important matches and it's hard to get excited for a MJF/Bryan feud when you know that Bryan is going to fall short once again.
