The "real" world title story would work fine (despite its flaws and leaps in logic) if Punk went full delusional heel with it. But he hasn't so it both sucks and blows. Like, it'd be one thing if it was a slow burn heel turn. But the character work of Punk since he came back has been really inconsistent. Like he'll act like both the delusional heel and the returning hero in the same show. Sometimes even the same segment! It just went all over the place.
At least when Ricky Starks wasn't fully committed to his heel turn, his tweener-ish character was consistent.

Call me crazy, but I still say that MJF will fight CM Punk in a Unification match at Full Gear! I also fully expect that to happen. Except while before Punk would have been the winner of the unification match (to "save AEW" from The Winter of MJF), now they'd be completely insane to give him a win over MJF.

Except while before Punk would have been the winner of the unification match (to "save AEW" from The Winter of MJF), now they'd be completely insane to give him a win over MJF. If there's even a slight bit of truth to what's been reported over the last couple of weeks, then MJF isn't keen on working with Punk, and Punk probably wouldn't agree to put MJF over. If Punk comes back, it'll likely be to just resume his stupid "real world champion" angle, and have that belt be the de facto Collision world championship. Which, honestly, is yet another reason why I don't think it would hurt AEW as much as some people think to just cut ties with Punk at this point. That storyline is one of the worst things in wrestling history, especially if Punk has no intentions of turning heel, and especially if it's not all leading to a match with MJF. It's certainly not doing much of anything to draw viewers to Collision, so what's even the point? What are you getting out of keeping such a toxic presence around?

Nobody in their right mind would even put Punk into MJF's orbit right now. This Cole storyline is doing numbers so good that the Better Than You Bay Bay merch has been consistently outperforming Punk's merch every week since it dropped, on top of the obvious ratings successes. A Punk feud right now could very well be a downgrade from what this is doing, and riding it out just makes way more sense than trying to rush it to completion in the next month or two so they can have Full Gear be Punk vs. MJF.

Doubt it’ll happen but I think he should work All Out (putting Starks over clean in the ME) and begin his suspension on Monday.
Doesn’t screw over Starks and means the show won’t get hijacked by a pro Punk crowd all through the undercard.

On top of that, Punk would likely insist MJF immediately revert back to his "I'm the Devil! Here's some low-hanging fruit to pick!" schtick if they were to immediately pivot towards that matchup. That's also a big problem. MJF is in the middle of an actual character arc right now that's getting people invested and signaling an actual change to his presentation that's monstrously for the better. I don't think Punk's ready to actually play the heel against MJF right now and the last time MJF got cheered over him he looked f***in' rough in the first place, but it would be an absolute disaster for what Max is doing to have to go back to the typical heel material.

I don't think even the Chicago audience is going to be as pro Punk as people are expecting on Sunday. He was already trending towards mixed reactions even before this last round of nonsense. He'll have his supporters, and there will be CM Punk chants, but I think they'll be booed down. I live in Indiana in what would be considered "Punk country," I'm going to be at the show, and I sure as shit am not planning on hijacking the show just because his dumb ass got himself suspended again.

Really I think a significant part of why Punk has been so much worse in AEW than he ever was in WWE is due to seeing the company as beneath him. It's abundantly clear he thought he was gracing a C-level company with his presence and was going to instantly walk in the door and elevate the place by himself, and he's lashing out pissed off that there are people in the company who are big deals besides him. He's mad that he's not getting the praise that Jericho and Moxley have gotten for where AEW is? When Moxley and Jericho didn't just bet on themselves, they bet on AEW and gave it much needed star power at the beginning, and Punk joined after it had been established.

This is another issue completely I didn't even have the chance to talk about because of the backstage stuff. The whole CM Cena booking and matches have been predictable as f***, and he is even worse than Cody on doing the Heel Nudge Nudge stuff while refusing to turn heel and be booked as a super face Being tongue in check your booking sucks doesnt solve the problem

SRS's new career as as Youtube body language expert is going to be the death of this board This just reminds me of a politics streamer I occasionally watch when I'm especially bored who can't ever comment on someone's body language without her subsequently spending five minutes going, "I know, I'm sorry, reading body language is bullshit, I'm sorry, I know, I'm sorry," and it's unbelievably annoying.

If Alvarez is right and Phil seriously tried "you wanna take it outside" with Miro then he has lost touch with all objective reality and become wrestling's Scrappy Doo. This man is living a meth addict's lifestyle without the expenses or side effects. Many envy him! He does look like a meth addict in fairness.

When Moxley and Jericho didn't just bet on themselves, they bet on AEW and gave it much needed star power at the beginning, and Punk joined after it had been established. Since some people already did armchair psychology. I think one big issue Punk has is thay back on his day he thrived by being the guy that was here to change everything. He had respect from the fans because he was against the status quo. And then came AEW , that did all the things Punk did and style his "spot" in his eyes. And everything he did is to try and get that image of the locker room leader that rallies against the bad guys back. Combine that with the ego and mentality of being a big draw meaning deserving to be the leader. Recipe for disaster
