He won the title twice and never had a single defense, right? Not only did he not defend it, he only had a combined reign of less than a week Injured diving into the crowd before his first match as champion, which was a trios with FTR, vacated it at Rampage Injured WINNING the second time, Scrumgate like an hour later He actively defended the "REAL Worlds Championship" more... a grand total of twice lmfao

Yeah it is sometimes easy to forget that Punk was from the era of "respect is king" and "wrestlers' court" and all that BS. He's a relic of a bygone era and mostly sat out the locker room transition into that of gamers and stoners just chilling around. At the same time he's a great case study into why it was absolutely such a good thing such behavior has (mostly) been weeded out of wrestling. Kinda crazy to see how some guys like CM Punk took that culture and then how others like Edge and Christian took to it, and opted to go "Hey when we're the aging vets, let's NOT do that". Miz said "I'm am aging vet, and a victim of the old time bullying. Now I have the power, and I ain't doing any of that shit." Woods and Kofi all there for that shit just said "We're gonna make fun of you if you suck at video games and that's it." Joe just said nothing because well, he ain't got time for those antics, unless you praise Ehrgeiz, then it's open season on your weirdo gamer ass.

Phil was a product of the backstage culture in the indies and wrestling of his time. Dude idolized the oldies. He bought into the whole “respect” thing, for better and for worse. Punk's generation (WWE and independents) include Cena, Batista, Orton, Danielson, Joe, Styles and a bunch of other guys from the early days of ROH and TNA. They all turned out fine. The hell happened to Punk? all these men except for Batista and maybe Joe i'd say are all high on the weirdo scale

PAGE 800.
Time to go back and read from Page 744. I heard Punk was terminated at the Minnesota State Fair today while sipping a delicious ribbon winning Carribean Lemonade from the West Indies booth of the International Bazaar. Going to take in this one sipping a Diet Pepsi after a soothing bath bomb. I trust it was an amicable split, pretty cut and dry and didn't go mentioned on "Colission?"

Orton seems to have mellowed out from the shit goblin he was 20 years ago. Danielson's got some weird hippie beliefs, but he keeps it professional at work and doesn't try to start fights. AJ Styles is well liked by a lot and seems to save his rage for losing at video games.

The only time MJF acknowledged CM Punk's existence when he returned was telling FTR they sniff his jock strap in a promo, and in retrospect that's the funniest shit ever.

This is going to make one hell of a Dark Side of the Ring episode in the future. I've seen the self-destruction of other wrestlers, but imo, this is the one that takes the cake for me due to how Punk was handed just about everything upon his return and given a second chance. I've never seen anything like it.

They're talking about him being an asshole.

The hell happened to Punk? In fairness all those guys mentioned certainly weren't problem free. Orton was trouble for years, Batista started a fight with King Booker and Cena had his political backstage moments according to people like Barrett and Alex Riley. Outside the WWE guys Styles has had a history of being homophobic and Joe went too far with his shoot on Scott Hall and chewed Vince Russo out which got him in trouble. Bryan didn't seem to bother anyone. The difference is Punk has made a lot of his backstage issues public and just keeps on stepping in it. Maybe it's the way he was brought up has made him into who is. It's no secret he has had issues with family members too.

I'm waiting for the report that says Punk was fine until Sue was handing out baked goods before the show and offered him a muffin.

I just keep thinking about being at John Cena's place and he's yelling at me in broken Mandarin because I opened a window and now he has to move house, it's beautiful

The hell happened to Punk? They all grew with the time, or in Batista’s case, got out. It’s ironic because he does seem progressive with his real life causes, but it doesn’t show in wrestling. He slipped into the old curmudgeon veteran role and was still a “rebel”, but the only thing left to “rebel” against was what’s new in wrestling. Which is basically what AEW is.

Reminds me of my post a few months back about Punk's "rebel" attitude. It worked with the WWE machine during a time where change was needed, but not with AEW. This time, he got exposed and proved everything the critics said about him right.
