Just curious, where do you get your retro games? I get mine from Amazon and two used game stores near me.

There's a nearby pawn shop where I live where I get most of my stuff. I also use eBay if I can find something affordable.

A few retro shops but nearly all of them have become really scummy in recent years. At this point if you can find a decent mom and pap gaming store that doesn't have ridiculous prices then cherish it.

There’s a store in my town called Nostalgia Alley that specializes in classic games and consoles.

A mix between ebay, goodwill/local thrift store, retro gaming shop, cons or local listing on facebook.

The internet...
As in the Xbox store and Nintendo eShop. I just bought the Doom Slayers Pack and the TMNT Cowabunga Collection last week.
Also, eBay.
It's also where I get my bootleg multicarts.

Gamestop.... the Wii/Ps3 and 360 are Retro! >_>
seriously though there's a local place near me (well there are a few near me and one location in Florida!) that deal with older games.

If you're from the midwest, Disc Replay is great and has decent prices on most things. Half Price Books mostly sucks but you can occasionally get something good there too. For the best deals on consoles, Facebook Market Place is good. But you need to check everyday and be willing to drive to meet people.
Conventions and estate sales can have good results too.

Unless the game is spiraling up in price, I'd prefer to try to find it in stores as opposed to searching online for it.
It's just better if you're someone who wants your game in good to great condition. I find it funny when people list a game online as "good working condition". As opposed to what? Not working at all?! Unfortunately, the trade off is a lot of stores are terrible about what they get in, so if you are looking for something super rare, you could be waiting years, while the price for it goes up.
Thankfully, I haven't purchased games in years since I'm pretty content with my collection, but I'd hate to have to shell out over a grand on some of those games I purchased back in the day for about 10% of what they're going for now.

Honestly once I got my Evercade I don't buy retro games. Either I already got the copies of games I want or for 20 bucks I can get the game and others on various Evercade carts.
Back when I was buying retro games I mostly used a local mom and pop store and just knowing all the local collectors. I could tell them "Hey looking for Zombies ate my neighbors on Genesis" and in a few days someone would have a copy. But this was back in like 2000 thru about 2007 before prices jumped way high.
If I hadnt started all those years ago collecting I would just emulate all the old games now. I am seeing stupid prices on stuff I know is common as dirt. But I get it demand drives up prices not rarity.

I live in a city with 5 used game stores, and it's cheaper than the Amazon, without having to deal with the shipping costs. I've gotten some pretty dang good deals and finds just based on volume.
I can understand why people emulate though. It's the worst with GCN and what will be the WIIU. Popular games with an unpopular costumes mean that games costing 5 on PS2 cost 10~15 on GCN. And that's not getting into Fire Emblem.
