This is quite freaky in the sense that I literally just watched the Raw episode where he popped up on the Titantron to grant Stone Cold a title match with the Rock yesterday.
May he RIP.

A true legend of the sport - he was everywhere during my personal golden age of boxing (80s & early 90s) and his voice was as synonymous with the sport to me as Howard Cosell or Michael Buffer. RIP.

Shame about his passing. I always will think of him voicing himself in Celebrity Deathmatch where he was pretty funny in it and actually entertaining to watch.

He was not afraid to step in if a fight got out of hand, as the Tyson-Holyfield match showed. Plenty of times you could hear him yelling at someone, "C'mon! Knock that shit off!"
*Touches nose twice* RIP

It’s rare an official has such crossover appeal in media and yeah, if you’re a kid of the 90s, “Let’s get it on!” in his voice meant shit is going down.
Rest in Peace.

Boxing was never on my radar so I actually didn't know he was a real ref, I thought the gag was just that he was a TV judge referring celebrity deathmatches.
Did watch the hell out of Celebrity Deathmatch though and he was great on it!

Says a lot about how big his significance was in culture when people either remember him as a big boxing fight referee, the host of his own daytime court show, being the referee of Celebrity Deathmatch, or showing up for cameos in WWF and WCW.
RIP Mr. Lane

Probably the most famous sports referee/official in American history. RIP. Hope you get a good, clean fight in the hereafter.

When I was a kid and since my dad was a huge boxing fan, if Mills Lane or Richard Steele weren't the referee, I didn't think the match was worth watching.
He was everything a referee should be and is the best to ever do it. RIP.

Every once in a while I'd look him up thinking he had passed. It had been so long since he had that stroke and I think it was pretty debilitating even then. He was a great guy. He used to sign his fan mail and would send an 8x10 photo and a signed letter. I also liked his Judge Mills Lane show. He seemed to be somewhat early on in the game before everyone post Judge Judy had a show. Not sure if he was before or after her but he was definitely around the same time and wasn't one of the many followers.

I remember Judge Mills Lane being pretty good for a Judge Judy replica. They used to show that and Judge Joe Brown back to back, and Mills Lane was always had a better perception of the right thing to do, while Brown was questionable at best. He was also the best part of Celebrity Death Match, even though that show wasn't very good to begin with.
